If Communism is so great, why don't all who support it just emigrate to Cuba/China/Venezuela and prove to us all that it can work?

Serious question (yes, you can argue that the above countries aren't "really" Communist, but you get the point of the question).

Let those who enjoy capitalism express their freedom of choice to live under their chosen economic system.

FYI, Cow-ism:

Socialism -- If you have 2 cows, you give one to your neighbor.
Communism -- If you have 2 cows, you give them to the government; and the government gives you some milk.
Fascism -- If you have 2 cows, you keep the cows but give the milk to the government, who then sells you the milk at a high price.
Nazism -- If you have 2 cows, the government shoots you and keeps the cows.
Capitalism -- If you have 2 cows, you sell one and buy a bull.
Pure Democracy -- You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk.
Dictatorship -- You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.

Yeah I get the point of the question... why should I move to a one party state?

Since when is capitalism unlinkable from democracy? Would you guys like to live in a one party capitalist state? Get the point of my question?

You could argue that we are in a way living in a one party state now. I would prefer a democratic-capitalism system though, but yes, in theory I would be fine with that.

Blah blah blah the major parties are essentially the same offering the electorate no real choice.... blah blah blah..... the media decides who we vote for.... blah blah blah.... political change is impossible because the major parties are too entrenched.... blah blah blah.... perfectly legitimate ideas aka communism are only rejected because the public has been brainwashed by the media... blah blah blah.... society is too apathetic and abdicates it's decision making to the media, surely they should be abdicating it to the inteligensia.... blah blah blah.... why is it that only we the Peoples Front of Judea can see it... blah blah blah... cast of your chains for you have the world to win... etc

Umm so since you don't have a point you trivialise mine?

If we essentially have one party then we don't have democracy, only a ruling elite?

Against your intelligensia argument... Intellegensia or Media Tycoon, who do you trust more when both are corrupt?

Onwards comrades we must rouse the proletariats! Gather your posters! Gather your placards! Gather your petitions! Gather your buttons bearing slogans! Memorise your chants!

We shall storm the hill with steel in our hearts and free the proletariat from the rule of the bourgeois! We will usher in a new socialist utopia!

Also sorry everyone but this is rather urgent so there won't be any time for washing, of either clothes or bodies. And for that matter no time for shaving, of either beards or legs. But that is OK - because cleanliness is an impost upon the natural and free state of man. It is but another method of bourgeois control. Reject it with your filth!

1. Actually I do have a point. I thought it was fairly clear, but allow me to elucidate, my point is that your point is such a stereotype as to be a caricature, laughable by it's very nature. By lampooning you I have clearly demonstrated this.

2. I categorically reject the idea that we have a one-party system. The similarity between our major parties can more than adequately be explained by looking at the electorate, by and large the electorate has similar opinions on the key issues and there is not a huge class divide. If 80% of the population is in favour of X is it any surprise that 80% of our politicians are? Note: we call that democracy.

And incidentally I would hardly call our politicians elite.

3. I know 'twas a sad day when even the intelligensia were infiltrated by bourgeois philosophy and co-opted by the ruling elites.... In answer to your question - we trust neither, we should look to Marx.

4. I notice that you are undertaking the intellectual rigors of 4unit math and yr12 economics this year. FYI: Supply and demand can be mathematically proven, hence the market, hence capitalism. Also even HSC economics while mostly mind numbing macroeconomics should teach you a bit about the benefits of free markets.

Supply and demands kind of assumes that the only goal of a consumer is to consume... I prefer to think of people as people, not merely consumers.

That's like saying that people shouldn't be called "breathers" because there main goal in life isn't to breath.
You live in the West. People are consumers.

Supply and demand assumes people will want certain things which will improve their lives as people.

Everyone does want to consume.

People may (indeed do) want to consume different items in differing amounts but ultimately everyone, anywhere, ever is a consumer of some sort. They might be consumers of goods, services or even intangibles like self satisfaction however until someone finds a way for everyone to have everything they want in the amounts they want with no trade off then we are all consumers.

We make choices about what to consume and in what amounts. We consider price and intangibles. For example a cashed up bogan considers the cost of a plasma TV (tangible), the improved viewing (tangible) and beating the neighbours (intangible). In exactly the same way the environmentalist considers the inconvenience of riding a bike (tangible), the reduced monetary cost (tangible) and the sense of self-importance they get from 'saving the planet' (intangible).

This all holds so long as we assume that people act rationally and in their best interests - as percieved by themselves at that time.

I want to consume an altruistic society, so who do I pay?

Oic. People trying to be nice to each other caused the Holocaust.

How my eyes have been opened.

Also Godwin's Law.

And I'm fairly sure Stalin was a libertarian. Therefore you are Stalin.
