It's alright. No one (competitive) will go out their way to help you...but they don't put you down either. That said, two guys don't talk after the guy who came first internally dropped a mark in the 2u hsc, resulting in the guy who came 2nd internally (but got 100% in the HSC) not coming equal 1st in the state. They both ended up equal third. btw you made a typo in the thread title op.

I was coming 1st, but lost it and have to get 4 marks higher in the trial than the guy above to get it back :/
I wouldn't mind so much but he laughed when i said i lost a mark in the assignment, so now i wanna get first!!1

Its like 5 min before you hand in an assignment "Oh I accidentally spilt my drink on your assignment. Sorry. Looks like you lose 20%"
5 mins before a maths test "Oh I just broke your pencil and a ruler - have fun drawing graphs!"
I don't see this changing after trials which is kind of sad.

My school is the most unhealthy school in terms of competition.
Plus, it is single gendered. So you can imagine what a hostile environment it is to be at.

I go to an all-boys school. Not that hostile.
