It's unspoken but definitely there.
Yet the teachers try to convince us its us vs. the rest of the state rather than against each other.

^ Lol, that's what happens at my school too.

Teachers say, "You have to do everything you can to improve others so that helps everyone's HSC". Then we all go, "Stuff that, I'M helping MYSELF so I will WIN THE CLASS! *laughs evilly*"

For the class of 2009, competition at SBHS was fierce, but helpful.

Everyone is smart but there's no competition really. Everyone just keeps to themselves. And like the above posters say, the teachers are like, "it's not you against the class, it's us against the state!" *cue class groan*

in my year, we had like a few people who topped everything... for the rest of us it was like a horse race, we pracitcally bet on who we thought would get top in class, awards etc...

we helped each other in my year, especially in drama and maths... it was really nice.

Most competitive part of my school is teachers... they don't like people who do more than 12 units. Actively discouraged the 7 people who picked 13 units.

Apart from that, students are working together more than competing (in maths and sciences at least).

It's not really "competition" at my school atm more just like people getting into "focus" mode and suddenly not talking in class and the alarmingly large influx of people in my year studying in the library during free periods

some people get pretty competitive, but i think people keep their competitiveness to themselves. i personally don't have a problem with sharing notes that we've done as a class, but when it comes to my own personal notes i get stingy

My year is the best ever.
Anyone helps anyone with anything, and everyone is willing to share.
We're all friends, and though we all strive to do the best, it doesn't interfere with our friendship.
