I completely agree with the person who said do advanced english... Seriously, even if you don't think you can handle it, start with advanced. YOu can always drop to standard, but it is hard to go up to advanced if you realise standard is too easy. Advanced scales a million times better, and it is difficult to get really high marks in standard.
Same advice for maths actually. Try mathematics before dropping to general if you need to.
Otherwise, you may have some serious regrets later in yr 11/12.

Good advice and and something that i would abide by... I think that it is logical to the harder ones first.... going up is much harder than going down! :)

Questions:

2. Is everything about essays for HSC english next year? No comprehension right?
3. I've heard some tutoring colleges give essays for students to memorise in HSc english. Is that true? wouldnt that be very easy then?
4. The books they give you to read.... Is it all classic books ? Which level of English has the most interesting texts?
2. A strong foundation in comprehension is assumed.
3. Memorising essays are ineffective, and a method of cheating IMO, unless it's your own essay. You should always plan and know what you are going to write about.
4. Extension has the most interesting books by far. We did Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare and Rudyard Kipling. Currently employed in Emma and Deborah Tannen's You Just Don't Understand. Advanced also has interesting texts.

1) yes, if you have at least 10 units after the drop.
2) depends on your eng faculty- at my school we were still taking in people from any levels of english till Y11 half yearlies. after that you weren't allowed to move up. (people who weren't capable of doing the ee1 course were pressured into dropping eventually, or did so on their own accord)
3) refer to 2)
4) refer to 2)
5) if you have at least 10 units after the drop, and qualify for esl (of course).

LOL

standard and advanced are scaled as one subject
Keep telling yourself that.

* If you like English, choose English Extension 1. If you really, really like English, in YEAR 12, do English Extension 2.
it's ridiculous how you have to do ee1 to do ee2; they require entirely different skills.

edit: btw, you don't really need a b or above in your y10 report to do adv eng (unless it's your school's policy). Two years is sufficient time to develop the necessary grasp of language to write at an advanced level. You can also memorise generic essays so that, even if your vocab crumbles in exam conditions, you still come across as a high level adv student ^____^

Do you need to do engish extension 1 in year 11 before you do Ext 2?

That is, can you do Engish Extension 2 if you dont do Extension 1?

I am asking this as i am very good at film making and it sounds like that that there is only 1 piece of work which you do, which is the film, short story etc.

Yeah, I think you have to do Extension 1 English in order to be accepted for Extension 2 English. When you do Extension 1 English, you do the 2 Unit course and the 3 Unit course. When you do Extension 2, you don't do 2 Unit at all. You only do Extension 1 and Extension 2. Also, in order to do HSC Extension 1 English, you must have completed the Preliminary course. Basically, if you do Extension 2, you will be doing Extension 1. However, if you didn't do Extension 1 in Preliminary, you can not pick it up in the HSC year. Since you can not pick Extension 1 up in the HSC year, this also means that you can not pick up Extension 2.

To do either English Extension I or II in year 12 you must have first done Extension I in year 11. You can't do Extension I in year 12 if you havn't done it in 11. Only certain circumstances that it can happen. e.g. 3 kids at my school pushed THAT much for ext2 that they eventually allowed it without doing ext 1 in year 11 for those guys. It was only that exception and I imagine that it wouldn't happen any other time.

At my school you do all the english courses (advanced, extension 1 and 2) if you choose to do english extension 2. Because you need to do about 7 hours of english exams in total lol.

haha. Maybe my school is just insane.

No, it only works that way for maths, not English. If you do Extension 2, then you do Advanced, Extension 1, and Extension 2.

Depends on how good a student you are, lol.
I found extension 1 to be challenging, but much more interesting than advanced.
