is it alright if i begin my story from a 3rd person perspective and then switch to 1st person??
or should i just do it a different way??

That probably depends on how fluid the transition from 3rd to 1st is, if it randomly swaps the marker may wtf but if it sounds right to you it should be ok.

According to my English teacher, HSC English markers look for transitions such as that as it shows the students ability to use literary techniques to enhance their concepts.

It would be a big bonus to include such a transition, but just make sure it isn't jarring that the marker is confused with what's going on.
