I'm thinking of using Crime and Punishment as a supplementary text...but trying to relate it to Skrzynecki could be hard. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of doing Crime and Punishment as well. However, I'm not doing Skrzynecki.

Anyway, would the translation of Russian to English affect the lit. techniques, tone, etc? And could this be a disadvantage when studying this text?

Translation issues will generally be covered in a translator's note or preface...it's the Russian symonyms and Dostoyevsky's tendency to pun and use symbolic names that provide a little difficulty...even then the difference isn't too much

off the top of my head- I'd discourage you from doing it: its a long and thoroughly challenging text not to be taken lightly: don't do it on a whim.
If you've erad it arleady ( I assume you have), take some quotes techniques and write a practise essay and have a teacher look at it .
You'll want to be very sure before doing a text that is a) foreign translation b) as complex as C + P
