I recently go this question:
How and why does context influence the type of crime writing from different historical periods and in different locations?

And I'm stumped.

Can anyone out there give me an explanation of exactly what Context is?
I've Google'd it a few times, but I just can't wrap my head around it.

Context is basically everything around the composer that might impact upon their writing.

Whether that be social values, personal experiences, practices and occupations, the audience for which it is being produced, even forensic methods of that time period.

Crime Writing has changed over time because elements of context have changed over time. For example, Conan Doyle has a real focus upon the investigative process, and the rational deduction of the crime. Quite removed from Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound, which satires his work because of it's predictability, and Stoppard's exposure to existentialism during his life.
