Hello to all you HSC students out there. Just thought i'd create this thread to see who's heading for Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga next year. I am currently a 1st year Bachelor Of Arts - Multimedia (3d Animation) student nearing the completion of my first year with only 5 weeks to go

It would be good to see what some peoples plans are for next year. Perhaps you can use this thread to ask questions about the low-down of the university life. So ask away!

Cheers Jabba Wocky

Bachelor of Business (Accounting) if I get in..
Going to try and get self catered accomodation.
I put early entry in so hopefully that works for me, as my first exam didn't seem to go very well.

Well the weather in Wagga, for this year anyway, has been really weird, usually its nice fine weather, but lately it frequently showers.

Usually when you start you meet the people you'll hang around with the next few years during O-Week (orientation week). But you meet other people on campus as well. If you engage in the workshops you also meet people with common interests.

For anyone who is planning on off campus accomodation, go to these sites and search for rentals

www.raywhite.com.au
www.professionals.com.au/
www.fitzpatricks.com.au/
www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=bhp&t=ren

The questions about LANs well for this whole year of searching for a LAN in wagga its usually only private LANs that exist but if your on campus you can usually hook up with any one who has an interest and LAN using the CSU network. I think you can even connect up with students from other CSU campuses like in Bathurst and Albury, i could be wrong. There was talk of a WARC LAN in Wagga in soem Art Hall on Saturday but i haven't really investigated it. At one stage it did exist but im not sure about now.

If you are planning on living off-campus then organise yourselves and meet other students looking for accomodation. Find a house with three bedrooms which has cheap rent. You should be able to find a house around $200 to $250 per week so divide that by three and you pay around $70 to $100 per person which is pretty good. Share a ADSL connection and split the bills by three also. It works best.

Post some more questions if you want to know anything else. Also you should be able to get Rental Assistance from Centrelink.

Another money saver is living near a Uni-Shuttle bus stop. You only pay $1 each time you get on and the bus goes to the uni and down the main street of Wagga. $10 a week to get out to the Uni. Beats filling the fuel tank up each week.

Hope this post helps. :)

Oh and what do we need to bring, I know the CSU website gives us a list, but what do we REALLY need?

hmm shit what to bring. Well i couldn't comment on what items you would need for your particular course. But all you really need is yourself, a place to live, a pillow, doona, pretty much what CSU website recommends.

Plenty of booze, a iPod seems to be a must as well as students seems to exchange files and such. A cheap good working laptop would be ideal unless your into gaming and heavy desktop work.

Oh i also just found out earlier this week that if you have a computer in your room on campus will cost an extra $100. But there might be ways around this. Oh and most importantly some good threads and deodorant. No-one likes a stinky student.
