Hi everyone,

I've been wondering about my choice of subjects in regards to the success of my UAI.

I'm in year 12 for 2009

my subjects are

-Business Studies
-Hospitality
-ADV English
-GEN Maths
-Biology.

they aren't high scaling but it is a mix.

will any of these subjects bring me down?
which subjects should i work extra hard on? (i know i should on all)
my grade and subject ranks are currently above average in school.

I'm aiming for a UAI of at least 85?

what do you think?

thanks in advance!

Its a mix of... low scaling subjects (adv eng is not that low but not high either) but fear not, it will not affect your UAI if you do well in them.

The best idea to answer that question would be to check out http://www.boredofstudies.org/sam/ :)

At a guess, to get 85, yes you would need pretty high marks. But the difference with that is - it is much easier to get those high marks in those classes.

yeah,

i did try SAM
but then i read in other places that the scaling changes every year.
so the UAI estimates are not really valid ):

SAM is still on 2005.

the school told us to choose the subjects you enjoy doing and dont worry about the scaling.
so i tried to choose the ones i thought would be easiest and useful.

now i AM worried- because looking at the other threads and stuff i can see that people chose harder subjects and even though they dont get high marks- the scaling can give them a decent UAI.

i want to pursue a career in the bio field.
but i guess i should also have done chemistry as well. (i didn't because that would just drag me down for sure)

hospitality was suggested by my careers advisor o_O
i wanted to do economics instead of that. but she thought hospitality was better for my learning.

and business- well it was out of the blue. i just needed to fill in my units and i thought that was a decent subject.- i wasn't wrong. it's quite fun.
:)

does it really matter if they aren't related?
