Hey Komaticom,

I understand you wear glasses right? (I remember reading on one of these forums the ADF pulled you up about your vision). What are you long sighted, short sighted etc. and how did this affect your application?

I've been through the whole selection process this year for ADFA Army GSO (general serivice officer) looking at Signals or Ordinance Corps but theres plenty of time to decide once your in there. The selection process is challenging but its bloody good good challenge. It is the hardest interview you'll ever have to do in your life- no one grills you like the army :) but you know at the end of the day you can only be yourself and if you aren't the type of person they are looking for then what will be will be. The whole OSB experience for me was pretty much a day of fun! we did heaps of group exercises and discussions followed by one on one interviews- it was cool, it was just like I was having a chat with four highly ranked army officer (as you do) oh yeh and a fitness test, but I didn't quite reach that dam 7.5 on the beep test!!! But don't worry if your fitness isn't there yet. Anyway, I got in!!! They gave me an offer of employment at ADFA next year. Rank: Officer Cadet (woohoo) and now all I gotta do is pass the fitness test and get 70 UAI for BA. FINGERS CROSSED! has anyone else been offered a place for ADFA 2006?

The only deviation from my application was that I had to submit an eye specialist's report. Apparently being able to see things 5cm from your face is the minimum vision requirement, lol.
Do you reckon you could give me some more info so I can look into this '5cm' thing more.

"The Army OSB does not grill. The RAAF OSB grills"
have you done both army and RAAF boards?

Well I have! I did a RAAF board for Intel officer and yes they do grill you but so does the army only in a different way. The RAAF board is all about stupid service knowledge and really lacks on leadership and potential. for example: what kind of weapons does an F18 have etc etc so in a sense you are grilled on aspects of service knowledge but we're not just talking "Who is the chief of defence?" they get into ridiculous specifics. Where as the Army is more about people management and they put the focus on you as an individual and your potential to become an officer. They pick out your weaknesses and see how you handle the pressure. A girl on my board had a really bad home life when she was younger and is now living with her grandparents and they really GRILLED her about that. As opposed to the RAAF which grill you on what you know about the service. There may be things in your life which you don't want to talk to strangers about but believe me the Army board wont have a problem grilling you about them. So Komaticom I strongly disagree with your comment, and as I speak from experience the Army does grill you- and so they should. They want the best.

Well I suspect that they perhaps didn't grill you because they were already under the impression that you weren't suitable for the position. We were told that they've pretty much made up their mind about you from the group exercises and public speaking. But I also know that every board president is different and not all boards are run the same so maybe they chose a different technique during your board than mine :)

Bsc. all the way! The only real service is the Army.
Had my last exam yesterday (Oceanography) and now its off to sunny Majura for 3 weeks of fun in the sun.

On the teacher student ratio, its pretty small but since academics are really overatted, no-one particulary cares as long as they pass.
