I'm wanting to do med, but I want to defer for a year. But my careers teacher said they usually dont let ppl in med defer.
Has anyone deferred, or not been able to?

Yes, you can defer Med.

Its basically like any other course in terms of deferring, however some unis have specific rules. Eg, at UNSW you cant defer bonded places, and at UNCLE, deferrals are limited to something like 30 people per yr. Im not sure about interstate places, but generally, yes you can defer.

Im defering med at UWS, till 2009.

They don't like you doing it because they need to fill the spaces, but there isn't much stopping you defer.

As said above though, each uni has its own rules

Most do, JCU is the only one that doesn't unless you have a very very strong reason to i.e. family illness, etc off the top of my head.

As long as your reason isn't "I don't feel like going to uni yet" they won't be bothered. Also, rofl @ JCU med.

As of next year, Melbourne will no longer do undergrad med. They are switching to the 'melbourne model' so med will only be offered as graduate.

(someone want to confirm this? Im not sure of the details...)

Pretty sure Monash is cool with deferring, but you're not allowed to enrol to start uni anywhere else, as monash won't accept you if you have any tertiary record whatsoever.

Yep in fact I'm positive because I remember when I got my offer from them they gave me deferral forms were sent along with the rest of the info.
