I'm in yr 10 and considering a degree within business or a finance related field. I just have a few questions that i need answering:

1. What's the difference between a finance and commerce degree?
2. How difficult is actuarial studies? I hear there is lots of maths. I generally enjoy maths and came 3rd within my grade on the most recent exam. I guess i want to know if a decent maths student can succeed within the course.
3. What exactly does an actuary do?
4. Is a commerce or business degree worthless?
5. What would be the best degree/s for investment banking, and are there any similar careers?
6. I enjoy things that involve analysing and interpreting stats and data. What are some degrees/careers that involve this, whilst also considering my interests in business and finance?
7. Would a commerce degree with a major in information systems be a good idea and worthwhile?
8. What is the best uni for a business or commerce degree?
9. Should i get an MBA?

Thanks, sorry for the wall of questions:dog:

2. hardest math in uni essentially - literally need to be elite level and enjoy maths
3. predict shit for companies
4. debatable
6. Data analysis/ statistics would help u and pay much more since it involves more maths (while not being as hard as actuary)
7. #unswmasterrace

Ill let others answer the other questions

m8, dont even worry about a degree as of yet. The maths in yr 10 and yr 12 is vastly different. Im not trying to pull you down or anything, just have some patience, focus on hsc and if u really enjoy MX2 (which u probs will) then actl is defs an option.

As far from what ive heard, its better to do a short degree in actl and quickly get a job. Only after that u should think about mba. In addition, make sure you also like economics because that too, plays a major role in actl.

1. What's the difference between a finance and commerce degree?
1. I think you mean the major in Finance. Commerce is a degree, but inside Commerce, you can specialise in topics known as majors, which are more important than the degree itself. For example in Commerce, you can major in Accounting or Finance etc.

2. How difficult is actuarial studies? I hear there is lots of maths. I generally enjoy maths and came 3rd within my grade on the most recent exam. I guess i want to know if a decent maths student can succeed within the course.
2. Quite a bit of maths. See how you go in the senior years.

3. What exactly does an actuary do?
3. Risk Management and Uncertainty.

4. Is a commerce or business degree worthless?
4. Nothing is 'worthless'. It's saturated though.

5. What would be the best degree/s for investment banking, and are there any similar careers?
5. LMAO Investment Banking. If you want a degree just for that, don't even try.

6. I enjoy things that involve analysing and interpreting stats and data. What are some degrees/careers that involve this, whilst also considering my interests in business and finance?
6. Analyst Of some sort or Data Scientist

7. Would a commerce degree with a major in information systems be a good idea and worthwhile?
7. If you are into FinTech

8. What is the best uni for a business or commerce degree?
8. UNSW/USYD in NSW

9. Should i get an MBA?
9. Dw about it until later on
