Hey,

As the title suggests, what is the difference between mediation and conciliation in the dispute resolution process.

Also, what is the difference between psychological and sociocultural factors that influence customer choice.

Mediation is when you get in a 3rd party
to help with the negotiation of disputation. (not arbitrate)

Conciliation refers to getting a 3rd party in but this third party, which negotiates and judged by a court. ?


Psychological - Personal characteristics that influence behaviour
so like Perceptions, Motivations, Self Concept?

Social / Culture - Customers society and culture for exampleee um
Famiy, social class, gender, age (demographical), peer group

Mediation: follows if negotiation is unsuccessful. A neutral person (mediator) helps the parties to negotiate themselves to reach an agreement.
Conciliation: it is similar to mediation except it is the Australian Industrial Relations Commission which acts as the mediator, being a much more formal process.

Just about to say that, +1. Then Arbitration is going to court which is dealt with AIRC. Then common law.

mediation - neutral third party who suggests ideas and presents issue but does not take part in the final decision making
conciliation - the neutral third party is the AIRC and the process is similar to mediation. However, both parties have the obligation to turn up for court for negotiations and the whilst they both try to reach an agreement, the agreement is not legally binding.

conciliation- is a 3rd party person a conciliation comissioner from the australian industrial relations commision who makes a judgment based on both cases and helps to reach an agreement if not succcessful goes to arbitration
mediation is discussion of the problem in a non threatening enivornment in the presence of a neutral person eg anti discrimination board who influences them to make a decision but doesnt make one

Yes the third party involved in conciliation is now Fair Work Australia NOT the AIRC. That's what I was told by my teacher - was hoping someone would mention it here.

AIRC doesn't exist anymore. Its Fair Work Australia, under the Fair Work Act 2009. Changed in 2010.

This.

Fair work australia 2009 replaced AIRC, AFPC, Workplace authority and etc.

hmm afaik:
mediation where a neutral third party helps the parties come to a resolution
conciliation is exactly the same, but generally the neutral third party has intimate knowledge of the area of dispute, and helps by offering solutions etc.

doesn't really have to be any one particular organisation, unless its a specific type of dispute or its part of some sort of formal process.
