I've got myself in a REALLY bad situation!

Okay, I am going on exchange from Jan until the END of March. I don't really want to defer for a whole year.

Can I only defer for a semester (like six months)?
Or can I actually start uni late, like when I come back at the end of march? :(

You should probably contact your uni with your situation once offers come up, but that's about half way through January, so it's a bit of a boggle there.

I don't think starting uni late is really an option considering the amount of work you would miss.

Yes I know people from several unis that have deferred for a semester. However, some subjects may only be offered in either autumn or spring semester so you may have to mix n match subjects (do some in advance, postpone others etc). You'd want to check your subjects' availability otherwise sometime along the track you'll be forced to do extra subjects or even an extra semester for one lousy subject -_-

Also be aware that some subjects require the completion of other pre-reqs.
