Hi there, I came back from a 18-day tour of Europe a while ago, and as expected, I have 750 photographs to print (more actually; I think it came to something like 1200 stills and 1000 videos; I just picked my best shots to get professionally printed). I've shopped around a bit, and I discovered that KMart is the cheapest - at 20 cents a photo. Does anyone know about anything cheaper? I've tried to do deals with places like Harvey Norman, and they still want to charge me between 23-25 cents per photo, and when you're doing 750, every cent adds up. Anyone know any place cheaper than 20c?

Now, there is a choice between matte and glossy photographs. They will cost exactly the same, and I don't really know what to pick.
Conditions:
* I will be storing my photographs in plastic, acid-free "pocket albums" from a Kodak store.
* I want my photographs to last for a v.v.v.v.long time (50+ years?)
* I have several "sepia" (old-fashioned) shots as well
* I have made some "panoramic" shots
* They 2048 x 1536px; horizontal/vertical resolution are both 180dpi (not sure how this will help)

Can anyone tell me what I ought to order? Especially people who have had the experience of photos developed at KMart? Thanks!

I've had some of my digital prints printed at kmart, just the normal size photos and they turned out good.
I've also a fair few photos and some enlargments done at harvey norman and they look great.
Whatever you do DONT get any printed at BIG W they turn out awlful... The colour s in the photos looked so dull. I got them reprinted at harvey norman or kmart and they looked great.

K-Mart digital prints are pretty much the cheapest around. Only today I had 70 photos printed and it cost me only 14 bucks and took a mere 30 minutes at very most. I am very happy with the quaity and have used them quite a few times. If you know someone who works at a Coles-Myer store you can borrow their discount card to get 5% off your purchase. The only cheaper deal I've heard of is from the local CameraHouse, who have 19 cent prints weeks occasionally. The catch is that you have to be a gold member, which costs something like 20 dollars a year anyway.

As for Glossy vs Matte, I'm not so sure. I am yet to find any definitive answer to which media lasts longer. I think the decision is more of a personal one. I personally prefer matte photos over glossy ones, as long as the matte photos don't have too much texture (Luster or Satin finish). I find it looks more proffesional that way. Whenever I make normal prints from the SLR I choose Matte. I don't know what the matte paper at K-mart is like, I didn't realise they offered the choice. If you are concerned about the longevity of your photos, do keep a copy of your photos on the harddrive and a backup burnt on CD-R. If you have a fast internet connection you can upload a zip file to your G-mail account, in case something happens to your house/computer.

Thankyou for the advice! I think I will ask them to print my colour shots all on glossy, and the sepia shots on matte (like you're supposed to). And I think with KMart, mum can use her FlyBuys card to gain some points, so it may work out to be more worthwhile than at CameraHouse...

Sorry, my school keeps giving me 504 Gateway Time-Out...I've written this about three times...I must have forgotten to reply earlier and it must not have gotten through. Nevermind, I shall rep you all equally. Again, just to make sure.

Thankyou, RB ~ CTC and OZGIRL86 for your help :)
