The Australian Government has decided to follow a policy of free trade. Industry and commerce groups have argued to maintain protectionism.
Which of the following would best support the argument of industry and commerce groups?
(A)
Retaliation against another country’s trade restrictions
(B)
Reduction of economic growth in the domestic market
(C)
Restriction of consumer choice to locally produced products
(D)
Protection of strong domestic industries from foreign imports

I got this quedtion in a tes today. The answer is A according to the answers howeverr i totall disagree.

The answer should be D as industries will always agrue in favor to protection so to protect their exports. At every least it should be B low economic growth however in the long term it does increase

By the way this is for business studies

My teacher sees why i am disputing this but he still agrees with the answer, what do you think should be the answer

It is meant to be A.

Consider B - If opening up trade will reduce economic growth then the local business should be able to compete. That's not a valid excuse for protectionism.

Consider C - This actually goes against the local businesses, thus this choice is out.

Consider D - Well, if it is a "strong" domestic then they should be able to compete with importers.

Thus A is the answer

But A doesn't make sense from the industries point of view.

Businesses wiil aim to be protected such that they have little foreign competition hence D

From this you assume you are taking a reason from the Businesses/Industries side hence they don't want to have competition so D is correct

Having A is suggesting from the government as having competition is a policy the government wants

It does sound like economics.

I got the mark. My teacher Is awarding A and D correct due to my reasoning.

Such a stupid question for a marketing exam.
