yeh i was there too... from Patrician Brothers College Fairfield (guys in blue shirt and blue blazer). Philosophy interested me the most, it seemed so cool. The guy who gave the lecture was good to, he was better than the philosophy guy.

LoL i almost choked when the man said they studied the 'weatherwoman' for comp. literature. Hahahah its like studying a pOrno.

I hope i get in.... only a few more days untill we find out!!!

they are three different courses offered by university to students who accelerated ie done a subject before year12 for the hsc. so you have to have accelerated in a subject or more to apply for it...

oh no im so stressed out now... why can't they just send a letter???

i don't want to be a reject :(

I'm going into year 11 next year and am incredibly keen on doing a Distinction course in year 12, namely philosophy.
However, I haven't started a senior school course to accelerate this year, so if I try and do the prelim and HSC course in one year, next year, does anyone think it's possible?

In that case, are there certain subjects in which is it easier to accelerate than others?
For instance, would it be easier to accelerate in vis. arts than ancient history? Or are all courses relatively the same?

Well it depends on what subject you find most is easiest. Accelerating in any 2u subject would mean having to complete a minimum of 120 hours. So whether its 120 hours of vis. arts or history, it doesnt really matter. You can't really compare one subject to another anyway. Just have to get a band 5/6 in the HSC, have a good report and pray you get accepted.

Thankyou! I think im going to try with an extension subject, that means it's the equivalent of doing a normal two unit subject over the one prelim year, yes?

hey PaleReflection, what subjects are you doing?

just try for all of them.

even if you have a bad report... if you have to just go up to the teacher and ask for a prelim test to prove that you are good enough. you can practically learn the whole prelim course for all subjects over the holidays.

yeah so talk to your teachers that you'll be having next year to get their perspective or tendency on this idea. if they say it'll be possible then work you butt off for that subject and kill the prelim exam if you have to.

but as i found out this year, most teachers are lazy and wouldn't give a crap about your needs. they just make excuses...

good luck :)

Yeah doing an extension subject will help you big time with getting in i think. But the problem is it might be too much work because you have to complete both the normal prelim and HSC course in addition to the prelim and HSC course for the extension component.

I think they focus more upon your HSC report for the subject you accelled in because this forms part of your final HSC mark which is what theyre after.

The problem with askingmy teachers about it now is that I've already finished and wont be back at school until next year starts.
I'm somewhat discouraged now! I am so interested in philosophy, but I'm not sure if I am good enough to accelerate
