I'm trying to get into the university of Melbourne, if I live within 20-30 minutes walking distance to campus, do you think I'd need a car to get in and around the city? Or can you live off public transport?

Thanks in advance!

I don't go to the University of Melbourne, or even live in Melbourne but after having visited it I can somewhat confidently recommend that you do not need a car to get around Melbourne.

There are extensive tram services running directly to the campus. Alternatively you can take the free city circle tram around to Swanston Street and walk for about 10-15 minutes up.
