Hey guys!

These are my current subjects:

- 3u math
- 3u english
- physics
- chem
- economics

however, my aspiration is to get into combine law: do I have to do modern history? If so, I will be changing eco for it...
this is pretty much a question for enoilgam. But if anyone else can help, it would be much appreciated!

This - you dont need any subjects for law (other than english which is compulsory anyway so its a moot point). Although, out of all the subjects I did for the HSC, I would say Modern History helped me the most with law in terms of skills.

What particular skills did you pick up in Modern History which helped you in Law?

Writing skills: This is pretty much the main one - you do learn them to an extent in other subjects, but modern essays I find to be most similar to law essays. Plus, as they are a big part of the exam, you focus on your writing skills more in modern than any other subject (except english, although I found english essays to be quite different to law ones). As one of my lecturers put it, in law, great writing skills are not an optional extra. To me, it is the most important skill needed for law.

Analytical skills: In law you need to have an analytical mind to link things in with each other and assess their overall significance, similar to modern.

Content: Similar to modern, law has quite a significant amount of content. Also, like modern, law has a lot of content which isnt really useful or which doesnt have as much value, so being able to discern this is a useful skill. However, the content in law completely dwarfs modern in many units.

Thank you for your time :)

So I would like your opinion: change economics to modern? or keep my subjects the way it is

To be honest, I wouldnt do Modern History just to help you with law. If you think you will like Modern better than economics and you think you can do better in it, then you should do it.

Also, keep in mind, my earlier posts are just my observations. Some people may value other HSC subjects more for law, whilst some may think no subjects really prepare you for law.
