hmm... yeah that's justified.

This argument has no end, there are casses where you could kill a person because of what they've done. I suppose you don't really have any empathy with the victims until you actually are the victim. What if someone killed your sister/brother or gf/bf... U'd freak, u'd want their blood. I guess it's just not your place to act... Still think the legal system is dodgy.
Yes, but should the legal system be ran by victims or their grieving relatives?

I don't think anyone can pretend to understand the situation unless they've been through it themselves, but allowing empathy to involve itself in the situation would result in an unfair trial; we must remain objective to understand both sides of the argument, and thus we are of a better mindset to discuss the use of the death penalty.

wen i walked into cairo airport, there was a big sign that said, any persons found with illegal goods is liable to be executed by hanging, it gave me the shock of my life to see something like that in reality.
Wow it work as derrant for someone who was never planing to smuggle illegal goods.

Of course it is going to affect you a tourist, and someone who's life has been of crime.

What about when it says in the Bible, 'An eye of an eye?'

So? Fuck the bible.

Death penalty is not the way to go.

However they should start hard labour regimes, such as you see in those old movies or something, where rapists, murderers etc. do extremely hard labour for every single day of the rest of their lives. I see this a suitable punishment, as the punishment will fit the crime

Why shouldnt someone have to die for committing a terrible crime? I mean seriously. I dont think that the law we live by is overly strict. If you are that much of a bad person (and by this i mean killing someone without a decent reason - e.g. self defence) then you deserve to die. Society would be better off without you.

Yeah well. I really do think some people deserve to die. Relations of families who are subject to awful murders would often want the person to die.

However. The NSW courts are pretty tough. Its generally the weaker decisions that make the media and generally those are appealed.

When the court does give a murderer 15 years it usually has reasons.

It is unfair to simply state that someone has killed someone and henceforce they deserve to die. There are a number of factors that need to be taken into account.
Yes i agree there are a number of factors that need to be taken into account. But there are people out there that are cold blooded murderers. Perhaps a death penalty may make them think twice before taking someone elses life. But then again, capitol punishment in America seems to have done nothing to prevent these 'cold blooded murderers' killing. They have nothing to live for anyway. I think a lot of people would prefer to die than to live a meaningless existance behind bars.

Read what I stated previously. Dealth penalty does nothing to deter because most murders happen without prior thought or conscience. People who murder do not do so in some kind of rational thought out process. It is usually done in the spur of the moment.

The death penalty only works to deter people in situations where they have time to be rational. Most murders occur at irrational heated moments where the person does not think of the consequences. Hence this explains why the the death penalty does nothing to do deter.

Most murders occur in the kitchen with a knife or with bare feet and arms. Why? Because people generally dont even think to grab a lead pipe or a gun. They grab the nearest thing or use their hands or feet.

Some people deserve to be killed. But the killing serves no purpose other than to get revenge. An 'eye for an eye'. Also the state should not encourage violence as a means of punishment. It inferrs that violence is the best way to punish. There are better ways to punish without violence.

However I think life is good enough in MOST circumstances. Never to be released. However Some killers (i'm thinking Seth Gonzales - Backpacker killer - Martin Briant from tassie) really do deserve to die. However in their cases they will die in prison. As life is now life.
So do you actually beleive that the threat of the death penalty would prevent someone like seth gonzales from killing? Im not disagreeing with you that murders dont occur when the murderer is completely irrational, however, a lot of murders are planned - in rational thought - and perhaps in this state, the threat of being caught, of not getting away with the murder and virtually killing yourself at the same time, is enough to prevent a murder. thats just my opinion anyway.

No I don't support it. Killing someone will not change anything. And there is always a chance of killing the wrong person (rarely happens but it does happen from time to time. Even the people working at the death row, counsels, and other people involved in the execution are suffer psychologically.

Our laws said killing is illegal, yet they are killing themselves, how does this justify? Life or long term sentences are far worse than death penalty. Death is instant, life/long term sentences are 30+ years.

no death penalty, but punishment isn't harsh enough.

i remember something about a man who was forced to drink acid in front of his home and he had a wife and kids, then after he died, apparently, it was found out that the criminals got the wrong guy.

the death penalty has its advantages in making people consider the consequences before committing murder. a particular murder, to some people under some circumstances, might be worth the 20 years he spends in jail, but if the death penalty applied, they might think twice before committing it.

the death penalty isn't going to affect those who don't give a shit about their lives and kill spontaneously. death or no death, they'll probably just kill themselves eventually anyway.

it isn't moral either, to take away someone's life just because they've committed murder. the authority to take life shouldn't be in anyone's hands - two wrongs don't make a right, even though it might make relatives of the deceased happy.

so... IMO murderers should all get life and extremely hard labour. they might want a second chance and change, but too bad :p nobody wants to see murderers walking around. :uhhuh:

... like that guy who killed the samantha knight girl in around 1987. he's free now

a good hearty dose of torture followed by some confined isolation does the trick.

the death penalty is not a deterrant (yes, it has been proved) and thus there is no use for it in our legal system. simple.

i think a life sentence is pretty harsh in itself, and yes, death, which is instant, might be too quick for some, and even worse, the death penalty could turn some into a "martyr" for truly heinous crimes, perhaps life in solitary confinement would do the trick

i dont support the death penalty by the state.

However victims of crime etc etc etc should have the right to hunt down there attackers etc..........and kill them. and be treated leniently by the government.

I think the death penalty should be used only after a long prison sentance and when the person is beyond change

It's a tremendous waste of humans. Do you realise that they dont even eat the people after slaughter in the states? Can you imagine? Wasteful gits.
