i've been watching too much what-not-to-wear.. arrghh!

i do stick to the trends abit but i also wear alot of random crap i find in the markets and op-shops

i'm happy with my body - i mean theres a few things i would change if given the opporutnity. but i'm not gonna wear anything that looks ridiculous on me no matter how trendy it is.. in the skinny jeans case.. i do have a pair, but i'm careful what i wear them with, coz i'm short and have "chicken-legs" and "wide hips" (imo).. instead i wear more straight leg jeans, which tend not to accentuate either of the features.. its about balance

anywho i do get upset if i'm in love with a trend, but it just looks dumb because of my body (or some idiot just doesnt know how to cut clothes properly!) haha, but i tend to get over it and figure that i've saved myself a heap of money

actually she's 70kg. which is 5kg heavier than me. im a size 12. she's also shorter than i am. also, american sizes are a size bigger than ours. i'd be an american 10. thus she's actually an american 16. ive worked in retail for 2 years, i know that.

im sick of everyone being all like "omg size 14 is soooooo fat" because seriously? im a 12 and im not fat at all. im actually smaller than average for my height, since im 178cm. size 12 is not fat, neither is size 14. how abouts you get over it. yep. yep. yeh cool.

just because im not a stick and i have hips doesnt make me fat. it means i actually look like a woman. wow. newsflash. and that actually makes me sexy.
Oooohhhh you're right, American sizes are bigger (sorry, must have got confused with something else).

However she seems to be pretty much in proportion, though... *is talking about bikini shot*

i totally agree with the basics of what people are saying yet for me its not so much at all dressing to impress people its somewhat dressing to express. i dress to how i feel even if its a certain dress code ill always put my spin on things yet i will never wear any mini skirts
another point some people might not like certain articles of clothing on others yet if the person still wants to wear that garment they can i spose

so stopp bashing skinny jeans please...

i used to be quite skinny, now i am more shapely. i still work out and eat well, my body has just matured. in fact i am happier with my less conventionally perfect body now that my state of mind is healthier.

many people with perfect bodies have to sacrifice too much for it. that doesnt mean i dont get the occasional giselle-oriented jealousy pang, it just means that i can look in the mirror and like what i am physically et al.

AVERAGE SIZE 14?!

farrrrrk we're a bunch of fatties
I thought that was WAY out of line, so freakin low. Very insensitive and an absolute generalisation.

But back to the question.
The way I have felt about my body has always affected what I wear. For most of my teenage years I was a size 14, and I dressed specifically to my weight. I didn't wear anything tight. I just wore things that made me look flattering rather than big. It had an affect on my self-esteem though.

Now that I've dropped to a size 10, the way I feel about my body has changed HEAPS. Sometimes I get daring and try on more revealing tops, pants, dresses, etc. But I agree with glitterfairy, more is ten times better than less. You can look REALLY sexy in clothes, and sometimes you just look trashy when you're wearing a head-band for a skirt.

It's not that you have to be a "certain size" to wear skinny jeans. Because I know girls who are "thin" but hate the way they look in skinnies. I feel comfortable wearing them, so I do. It's all about feeling comfortable with your body

edit: azzie has just spoken REAL sense. amen girl

Sexy? real modest too. Still It shocks me how girls get on their high horses waving their arms around about how its so wrong make fun of peoples curves and then in the same sentence refer to people who are thin in a derogatory way.

I mean the intelligent person above complains about people calling size 14s fat and then has the audacity to then describe thin people as 'stick' like and then infer than because they are 'stick' like they are not as womenly as her. Arnt girls just so nice? As if body shape had anything to do with how much of a woman a person is.

As for sexy? Well that is a subjective judgement. Some people prefer the petite some prefer larger. Holier than thou females don't really have a right to proclaim that a certain body shape is not sexy or womanly especially when such gross generalisations are what they are complaining about in the first place.

Not everyone shares your view about size 14 girls being sexy and womanly. Some people may harshly refer to these people as not very womanly or perhaps like a great big whale. But I mean to say such things is so darn awful! But I guess it's ok to slag on about how thin people are not womanly.

i'm fairly comfortable with my body these days and thus i like to think i can wear what i like with confidence like shorts (love love love them, been wearing them for years).

i'm mainly a jeans and t-shirt girl so that works out fairly fine :p however and don't take this to mean i think i'm stick thin or just so obsessed with trends but i like my skinny jeans and i like wearing them. i think that i look okay in them and they're comfy.

however i (like everyone) has their "fat days" where i just wanna wear a baggy t-shirt and loose, comfy jeans. i think you'd be lying if you said you were confident all the time in any clothing.

My body image definitely affects my lifestyle and consequently, the way I dress.

From a very young I subconsciously learnt the ways of 'dieting'. I learnt that fat, sugar and salt was 'bad' and I was never fed sweets. I grew up having to attend my dad's business functions and other business-related dinners, where my only role was to smile and look pretty.

I guess my point is I've always had the pressure to stay thin and to take care with my appearance. I'm always aware of how I look and the image I may present in public, and because of that, I always feel the need to dress nicely and look groomed.

Honestly, sometimes I think it'd be easier just to be fat, with having to worry about every morsel that passes my lips and whether the sauce on my chicken will make me look fat in skinny jeans. I mean, who cares, right?

im generally pretty happy, but body image does affect my clothing choices to an extent. If I decide I'm having a fat day, or I look bad, I will put on clothes to try and cover it, and also feel depressed. If I'm going out clubbing and I don't feel comfortable with how I look, it wrecks my whole night. As shallow as it is, its something thats been taught to me since I was little.

This will probably come off sounding horrible, and I don't think everyone who is size 14 and above is 'fat', but some are. Some are fit and curvy and sexy, but then a lot of girls around that size that I know, have a small frame with alot of podge and I would say that they are unhealthy. If you compare our average sizes with 20 years ago, they are larger and in general, we are getting fatter. Because size 14 is classed as 'average' i think it gives people a false sense of security about their lifestyle habits.

actually the "intelligent" person you speak of, is most probably referring to anorexic people. She has every right to say what she said, considering, chloe mentioned that australia has a lot of "fat women" (worded loosely) since the avg woman is a size 14.

Of course sexy is a subjective judgement. she is merely suggestig that sexy to her is not being a stick.

the only statement we should criticise here is this:

I have white teeth from careful brushing and the dentist.

They are also weak and brittle from lack of calcium.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

I think you missed the point.

It's just wrong to complain about people calling size 14 fat and then in the same sentence call thin people with no curves not womanly and not sexy. Some girls naturally do not have curvs (much like some girls naturally have curvs) and they are not anorexic.

I think you missed the point. To some people sexy is not size 14. Sexy is a petite size 8. OF course all this size stuff needs to be taken in context. A girl that is 6 foot tall is probably not fat say if she is a size 14.

Nice to see you used the term 'stick' whern describing thin people. Since two wrongs do make a right amoung some of you all size 14 girls should be refered to as 'cows'. Sure, one is little bit more harsh than the other but you get the idea.

the only statement we should criticise here is this:
Why? It's exactly the same as the following statements. Making unfair generalisations of body types. Because someone unfairly generalises about size 14's doesn't give another girl the right to unfairly generalise about 'stick' people who have no curvs and who therefore are less sexy and less womanly.

oh dude. dont even get me started on what i do and dont know about bodies and image and how people look. at one time i was a size 8, i starved myself to look good and get a job because i thought modelling was the best thing ever. having been anorexic, i know what some girls go though to get their bodies to fit into a mould that just doesnt fit.

and yes i can say im sexy because i think i am. and i feel it. not always, but i like that feeling. if you talk to anyone who knows me, i dont run around saying it all the time, i dont pretend to be better than anyone and im not stuck up about it. you should read the comments that sparked what i said and i think you'd understand. calling a size 14 a "fatty" isnt exactly a very nice comment.

i have friends who are soooo skinny, but the're still such beautiful girls. they're hot, theny think they're attractive and they love their bodies. by the same token i have friends who are size 16 and yet they carry themselves like stars because they dress well and they look great, they're confident and happy with their bodies.

i was saying what i said to tell those girls that thinking of a size 8 as "hot" and a size 14 as "fat" is so totally off the mark and insulting. i was a size 14 when i was a kid and i was so nervous about it, and those comments around me made me feel so uncomfortable and triggereed my anorexia and my dream to be "better" through not eating and making myself sick to look like they wanted.

my best mate is a size 8 and shes one of the most attracive girls around, but she doesnt go around saying anyone over a 10 is fat or unattractive. if you knew me, you'd probably know why i said that. but since you dont, you've taken what i said all the wrong way.

i hope you read this and understand.

:(

Not to sound pushy here, but perhaps think about long-term dietary improvements? Eg higher intake of calcium - and just guessing here - carbs? If your teeth are brittle then you might also be at risk of osteoperosis in later life. :(

azzie, I'm sorry to hear that you once went through anorexia, and I agree that there are many girls out there that do think the perfect figure is the so-called "stick thin" figure, but what wheredanton is saying is that people like you don't have a right to get offended/angry at people calling size 14 fat, and at the same time criticise those who are on the opposite end. Some girls don't go out on a limb to be skinny, they just are that way, and as much as they try to gain a few more kilos, they can't due to their metabolism or their genetic makeup just not letting them gain an extra few kilos. I have friends like that. They eat anything and everything and they are still "thin". So although calling a size 14 a "fatty" isn't a nice comment, calling a skinny person "stick thin" or "soooooo skinny" isn't a nice comment either.
