Does anyone actually use hair rollers to curl their hair anymore? (1 Viewer)

Long story short - just got hair cut, hairdresser did that GHD curl thing, and once again I am in LOVE with hollywood hair and anxious to be able to do it myself. Was going to buy one of those silver bullets, but then I think Myer had a sale or something, and... yeah "and suddenly, I was broke! Imagine that!"

I'm pretty sure Price Attack sells Silver Bullets (I remember seeing them in there), otherwise those GHD's are avaliable in every hair shop I see.

But today... I spotted a nice set of VS heated rollers

I like the kind of 'natural' look straighters-used-to-curl-hair have. It's kind of inconsistent (in comparison to rollers), which is cool... but because I don't have eyes on the back of my head, I'm petrified of "missing bits", and having that ugly straight bit left over which sticks out through the curls. At least if I use rollers, I can be sure that I'm using all my hair.

So my question: Is there anyone out here that still uses hair rollers to curl hair? Can you get results to match those of the ghd? Or am I behind on the times and just need to hurry up and learn how to work them properly?

I've got some old curlers that I still pull out and use sometimes for fun. They're not bad really.

My hair never holds curls for long though However the curls that I've gotten with the curlers last far longer than GHD curls.

i have hot rollers and a curling wand... the rollers are ok, but i come out with those really round porcelain doll curls...the curling wand does much nicer, looser wavy curls. im sure you can get nice results with rollers but i dunno, mine dont work well lol. oh and rollers take a lot longer too.

My rollers take forever but they fall much nicer than other curls.

It's probably just my hair but the GHD/straightener curls are gone within like half an hour whereas I get about an hour out of my roller curls.

i've never been able to get hot roller curls to hold all too well/long. never tried it with a straightener. whenever i had to curl my hair, i had to use rags and i only ever got close to porcelain doll curls
my hair just generally doesnt like fake curls....and i dont really either, so it all works out

YES that's the description! They do look like porcelain doll curls (at least in my hair and with my curlers) even if I use big rollers. I don't mind about how long it takes, just what the results are

my hair is also ridiculously curly, but i find i get nicer curls if i use rollers or a GHD. The curls you get from both are nice. However rollers take FOREVER to put in, dry, and take out - so I'd go for the GHD.

Also, if you stuff up for some reason, its alot easier to fix it with the GHD, than curlers.

Once upon a time, I did the "leave curlers in overnight" thing. These days I've discovered the wonderment of heated rollers Yes, I like sleeping without things digging into my head. I have no idea how our foremothers dealt with curling their hair almost every night!!!!!

The "doll" looks is best achieved by any real "roller". If you're hooked on the overnight thing, perm sticks are your best friend (oh, and you WILL use curl papers if you want nicely finished ends). If not, then most heated hair rollers will do the same job. Just make sure you don't put too much hair in each roller.

Some twisty curlers can work, but I find that they're a bit more inconsistent than actual rollers, unless you're using a LOT of them.






Hmm. It's leaning towards the Silver Bullet or the bigger GHD (for those luscious, big sexy hollywood curls) for me at the moment. I do have a set of heated rollers after all... if worse comes to worse I can always use both, rather than having two sets of heated rollers to choose from? (the more I think about this, the more it makes sense! hurrah)

I don't know whether this is just a fluke I manage with my own hair, but since yours actually has some natural curl maybe you can give this a try:

Unless I'm using heated rollers, I need super-strong product in my hair to make anything stay. Unless I put rollers in just before my hair fully dries... then it finishes drying on the rollers, then the curls WILL NOT come out until the next time I wash it. It becomes like naturally curly hair... I can pin it up, pull on it, and it will always go back to curly.

I used to use those twisty curlers when I did dancing, but I remember finding them extraordinarily frustrating and time-consuming because they'd always fall out. I will buy some heated rollers. :uhhuh:
