1. Attempt honours if you want to,
2. it's not useless to put (Honours) on your resume. There's no rule that you have to put what class you got, especially given some universities don't give out classes,
3. I've heard of lots of people who have done better in honours than undergrad. Conversely, lots of people who do well in undergrad assume they'll do well in honours when they don't,
4. Masters aren't just a money making scheme.

Generally honours is taken immediately after a bachelor and does require higher grades (for the most part) than a masters. A PhD requires either an honours or a masters degree and requires a massive amount of time, dedication, and effort. In the past a Masters course was for professionals looking to further their knowledge in a single field. Over the past decade or so more and more people are completing masters straight after their bachelors.

Depending on what field you work in will determine what level of educational attainment is necessary for advancement or even entry.

You should only do a PhD if you are extremely interested in a subject not because you want a job. If you want to move up your job ladder do a masters degree.

that means if i would ever get 50 in every course from 1st to 3rd year i cannot complete the 4th/final year of my mechanical engineering degree where i must do a thesis which is an implicit form of honours!!
