im thinking of doing a double major in economics and business law ?? any employment opportunities ??? and another question, is it better to do a double major or single major + 2 submajors ??

I think you are facing very good employment prospects by doing majors in Economics and Business Law. Business students with a solid understanding of the legal system, have a huge advantage over students who are oblivious about the impact of law on business. The world of business is becoming more and more legalized. I also think that an economics major is very solid because in the business world it is increasingly getting more and more mathematical. You cannot manage what you cannot measure.

thanks for the reply. as you can see from my signature, i have not done legal studies before and i regret not choosing it. am i going to be disadvantaged for this??

As long as you did Business studies you studied about Industrial and Labour law and as long as you did really well in two unit maths, that alone should help you graduate from Business Law major. Business Law is increasingly becoming mathematical (Applied Company Law and Taxation Law). Just keep working your butt off.

hey, just wondering do you know whether/when the economics course is going to differ from high school economics cos i like the subject but just cant stay awake in lectures at the moment cos i feel like ive sat through all this before in high school.

also does the business law major still exist because i cant seem to find it anywhere

To get an economics job, its best to do an honours degree or a masters degree in economics. But your opportunities are wide in business - not just limited to economics. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter that much which major you do. It shows to your employer you have an interest in that field which is important, but at the end of the day, if you smash out good marks, you'll do well.

Economics can get very mathematical at higher levels and definitely much more difficult than the simple supply/demand curve and using simple calculus. But the difficulty depends on university to university.

Sub Majors show the employer that you are someone who is not decisive/ competent. Sub Majors are toxic because it shows you are someone who loves to chop and change and that you are not a committed employee willing to specialise in two majors. It is much better to specialise in two majors.
