Hi, I'm trying to get in to the medical science course at USYD
The stated assumed knowledge includes AT LEAST 2 science subjects for HSC
I was planning to do Maths ext 1 + 2, eng adv, bio and chem for HSC, but now people are telling me that Biology scales you down compared to Jap, and that i should keep Jap instead of Bio.

Do they even check the subjects you've studied?

Do what you're good at and better at, if you're better at Biology then keep that, as a higher mark in bio is usally>lower mark in jap, regardless of scaling.

Oh i bet they say chem is better scaling aswell right?, well iirc 93%+ bio scales better than chem.

Why not do both? I only count 10 Units from you unless you also want to do Extension Jap. If you must have 10 units then just do which ever you need more. Theres always bridging courses for assumed knowledge.

if you wanna do medical science then keep bio, otherwise if you dislike bio more than japanese, then by all means keep japanese.

but it's probably better to keep both so you can see how you're currently performing with both in yr 12. You still have a lot time to drop a subject. :)

What if i like both and can get a high mark in both?
Bio or Jap?

Jap is pretty heavy... listening, writing, reading, speaking, kanji XDDD

I'll keep both for a while, until 4U maths becomes too hard

if u don't want to drop either of them,, then keep both =)
I do ur subjects incl. both jap ext and bio too.. it's not that hard cos jap doesn't require as much studying. and they're really fun subjects too!

yeah, there is no reason why you have to decide now. wait it out, and if u need to, then drop something. i suggest not bio, because there will be assumed knowledge in the med course, and learning another language is always a +, and if u can get good marks in both ++++

Why bio?
It scales pretty bad...
Wait, should i be focusing on getting a higher ATAR or at doing the subjects that would benefit me in uni?

get that ATAR you want, no point doing the subjects that will benefit you if you can't get into the course.
