Dux or valedictorian, which do you like more?

I personally prefer valedictorian. Sounds waayyyy more prestigious than dux. I mean c'mon, you reward your highest ranking student by labelling him/her a duck(s)? :s lol.

haha relating the word to a homophone's definition doesn't really give a reason to drop the title.

valedictorian is derived from the latin word which means "goodbye"
dux is latin for leader

which do you think sounds better?

We have Dux and Prox. Ass. So 2nd of the year get Prox and 1st get Dux.
Then we have a Valedictory Dinner and Day.
I like both.

At my school, we just have dux and a runner up dux award. And I think it's unlike most schools where it's based on trials/internal assessment. So I suppose it's whoever has the most 1sts/overall best ranks. (It's given out before HSC/ATARs come out).

But then like almost a whole year after you get your results, they invite people back for the best external performance in certain HSC subjects. Like Highest Pass in HSC English, Eco, Chem etc.

Dux has the letter x in it so automatically has a higher regard. Though valedictorian is nearly as tempting.

This made me laugh for a good minute!

My school has:
Dux for 1st (who ever gets first out of both of the HSC or IB)
HSC or IB Dux for second (who ever gets second out of both of them)

My school doesn't have these... :(

Just "Academic Achievement Awards" if you do well over a few subjects internally.
