Lol. K got deleted. Any ideas on how Emma's meaning has been reshaped through Clueless as an appropriation?

The message portrayed through certain elements in Emma have been reshaped in Clueless. 'How' includes techniques dictated by the new context and its mediums, such as the discrepancy between visual and audio acting as an equivalent for the ironic authorial intrusion in Emma. The techniques are the HOW you need to focus on.

the thing is, what ur supposed to learn is that, although emma has been transforemd into clueless, its moral and messages have been preserved. correct me if im wrong but, i dont think the values displayed in emma have changed that dramatically in the contemporary beverly hills.

true, but what makes the values message constant? imaginative reshaping through medium and modern techniques as well as change in values across contexts convey the same meaning in Clueless as in Emma and thus remain relevant for modenr audiences. Thus the values im Emma HAVE changed significantly through to Clueless, e.g. focus on marriage in Emma is a centrepoint. However, in Clueless, marriage takes a disposable preposition - "you divorce women not children" - thus it is no longer relevant. To convey the same messages of love in marriage Emma portrayed, the values must change; in Clueless, this change is the focus on dating, sex and relationships.

The focus on sex, dating and relationships can be seen largely as a media construct/drawcard. This focus, as well as the marriage/courtship theme are both institutions created to fulfil the value of romance/love/social stability. As context has shifted, due to women's liberation movements, more social fluidity, etc etc. [context shifts] marriage is no longer necessary, but essentially still remains a desirable construct for women - seen through the closing wedding scene and the male/female couplings and the attention and thought that the three females seem to have put into planning their would-be weddings. Heckerling subverts this however [as she does with every theme] and shows the audience through dialogue their focus is mainly on the aesthetics of wedding, not even hinting that they understand the intrinsic values behind their urges.
