powl or whatever the hell he is called doesn't actually know shit about anything

so ignore him

there is bias, yes. At some employers, yes. Not all. But there is also bias against genders, races etc (as much as we would like to say there isn't)

Just make yourself the best you can be, and you'll get a job.
Exactly

Honestly shitty hsc students use the uni to go to, to validate their useless, meaningless and at the end disappointing time, and convince themselves they have some advantage in life because "oh no! u didn't go to a bunch of unis dats 200 years old!!!!!!!!!!"

grow the fuck up

there's people graduating from 1000 year old unis in europe spitting on your degrees

or not

cause they have better things to do

like killing hookers

Definitely- there is a discriminative barrier in society.
The dentist i visit, as well as the optometrist only employ graduates from USYD.

Anyone who says there is no bias is just being dishonest with themselves.

My cousin's friend's sister's mum's boss graduated from UWS business and khommerce degree (for da boyz) and makes 500k a year.

Pretty sure that's because only USYD and CSU offer undergrad Dentistry courses, and seeing since CSU is in the country only Dentistry (specific) Grads are from USYD. Not sure about USYD and Optometry, as that's not a course offered there. But if you meant UNSW - then it's because they offer the Optometry/Visual Science course whilst other Unis don't.

The choice is made out of default.

Bias does exist and to disregard it would be ignorant.

Its kind of like saying scaling doesnt exist and you can get any ATAR with any combination of subjects. Sure you can 99.95 with gen maths, senior science and standard english but its infinitely easier with subjects like 4u Maths and physics.
Same with unis, its easier to attain better jobs when going to higher ranked unis because employability increases with the prestige of your university. Its unfortunate but true for some, not all workplaces. It really depends on what you want to pursue after uni. If you want to be a doctor, teacher, nurse etc, unis are pretty much irrelevant. But if you want to be an investment banker at Goldman or a software engineer at google your chances are severely diminished with a degree from UWS. Its not impossible but you'd need to have super connections or have done something extraordinary.

Just like ATARs though, degrees become irrelevant to work experience over time (unless you're Scott Thompson). However it really helps to get your foot in the door.

No - employers don't discriminate between universities! Having worked in the private sector for the past 5 years, it's definitely all about who you know and how you carry yourself in an interview.
I think OP is asking in regard to a job immediately after graduating in which case the 'who you know' becomes more about 'who your family knows'. For most people, its a non-factor when it comes to their first. If bias did occur though, it would definitely be before the interview stage. There are some firms that auto-bin resumes from specific universities. Once you get to interviews, you can ultimately prove that your university doesnt define your abilities, but its not being given a chance to do so that is the problem.

You'll find a job regardless of what uni you go to, just might take longer and it might not be with the big 4 etc.

Face it, it happens. Only someone as stupid as lolsmith would go out and try to deny that it happens.

If you had to have a life saving operation would you rather a UNSW medicine grad or a UWS grad? If you knew absolutely nothing else , the answer would be obvious.

USYD and UNSW are like the David Jones and Myer of Australian Universities. UWS is like the Franklins of Australian Universities. A student may be taught the exact same things at all universities (This is usually the same for all uni around the world. E.g. First year physics is basically the exact same topics no matter where you study around the world ) and pay the exact same fees, but because UWS has a lower cut off people think that they have lower exam standards as well.

While it is not always the case that a lower cut off uni has easier exams, sometimes it is true. For example, if you see a final exam for first year physics from UNSW if is much harder than a final exam from UWS. UWS gets a bunch of questions that can be worked out in two lines of working, UNSW questions are a lot more involved.

Lolsmith probably goes to UWS or UTS and he is just running from the truth like all of the other people that didn't work hard enough in high school to go to a good university.

EDIT: "MichelleV" just gave this post negative reputation. ohhh... have a cry butthurt UWS student.

How would you know this? Have you attended both universities?
