ive heard its ok but truthfully why b worried about that kinda stuff? its got nothing to do with the uni u go to, only with how well u perform and you as a person. if u do well in ur course and really have a passion for wat ur doing, then that will make u appeal to employers, not what uni u went to... think about it: does it matter now what high school u went to? or even what uai u got?

well, thats wat i think anyways... :)

eh

MaryJane is on the right track

doesn't matter what uni u go to

its what u got out from uni that matters..theres no point graduating in oxford or yale and u have no fucken clue what to do in the interview and the impression u tell the employer that ur degree will not help the job

Indeed, prestige and all that mean exactly ... .'FUCK ALL' to employers these days.

Just do your best and have a ball of a time. You'll eventually get employment in your field one day or another.

unless you're going to harvard/oxford/cambridge i really wouldnt worry about the reputation your uni has.

noones gonna pass over someone whos shithot from macquarie for someone dumb from some other uni with a good rep. its up to you to be able to prove to them you're shithot. id just do what majesty says, have some fun and dont worry too much about stuff.

I don't think anyone gives a shit where you get your undergrad degree from as long as you have really good results. I think it matters where you go if/when you get a post-grad.

even post grad. i was talking to someone and they said they look at the person, their skills, and what they can do in certain scenarios. if they are good, they are hired, no matter where they studied.

That really varies. It depends on what sector we're talking about here. For instance, the medical sector is less fussed with where you get your degree from as compared to maybe commerce. Also it very much depends on the employers. I know that where I work ... my going to UNSW is seen as a huge positive to them as compared to another uni. I don't know... it's just the way it is.

well i may as well add there is one company who will only hire usyd or unsw graduates.

in the end i doubt it will make TOO much of a difference. if you can prove yourself. and after your first job they probably wouldn't care.

clairegirl - why is it not everything you've dremt of?

in fields that dont require a licence or certification (eg doctors, barristers, accountants etc) an undergraduate degree is probably best considered as a foot in the door. The quality of your results will play some part in determining which door the foot is in, but after your first "real" job the focus will probably be more on your past experience, not your academic results.

however, university is a good chance to meet some new people, open your mind, try new things and have some fun and i reckon mq is a good place to do this. enjoy it while it lasts :D

This is not the case for courses like the MBA. Of course the quality of your work experience would also matter I would think. International students consider branding of the uni very important.

Those are based on research, how many nobel prizes etc. Who cares about that when you wanna go to a uni to get a job (and not to cure cancer).
