Sweet, thnx buddy.

I'ma checkout parra library for them. R they syllabus related?

btw, is ur skool big on techniques? Eg Labrythine structures etc..?
I think the book "Thrillers" by Martin Rubin covers alot of that but spends too much time on references. Give it a go if u got the time.

The tv show angel, apart from being very cool, is a great CF supplimentry text, it shows how the genre has been subverted, the traditional bad guys are the goodies and it also parady's a lot of hard boiled stuff, i read some where that the lamp angel has on his desk is the same one that sam spade had in the maltese falcon. Also the episodes are only 40 minutes long so there nice and quick.

We havent got into techniques in too much detail, we have kinda gone more for critical material on how context shapes and re-shapes teh genre.

I do 4 unit maths and 3 unit english.

I find both are challenging but I like 3U english more. I'm doing the crime fiction unit.

What your favourite core text?

PS I do 13 units.

The Big Sleep is probably my favourite. Humphrey Bogart is cool... hehe "Come into my boudoir." I didn't like Skull at first but then it started to grow on me... Cordelia is still a pain in the ass though.

I think Skull is a parody in some ways... it's pretty self-referential about the crime fiction genre, with Ambrose talking about how commercialised crime fiction is, and also Ivo's comment about reviewing Agatha Christie... and also the ending is pretty morally ambiguous compared to, say, an Agatha Christie... (sorry, I'm currently going through an anti-Agatha Christie phase...)

I'm not studing Skull but I have read it and I agree that it is a parody of Agatha Cristie "Golden Age" style crime fiction.

Have you seen PD James? She IS Miss Marple!
