Hi guys

I will be doing Engineering this coming semester and although I did 3U maths for my HSC, that was back in 2011 and wanted to review some work,

Which core areas should I re-learn in preparation for my 1st year Maths at USYD (1001, 1002)?

Assumed knowledge is 3u, so you have done that, which is good.

However you are likely to have gone about rusty on some stuff.

Download the 3u and 2u 2012and 2013 HSC maths exams and try to do them. That might give you a guide as to which areas you have to do some extra work.

That said, integration and differentiation are important, as is general competency/understanding/speed/appreciation of mathematical issues and concepts, as opposed to specific equations.

Any core subject areas in specific? Would series and probability/ binomial theorem be used in MATH1001/MATH1002? I know its used in Statistics tho.

Series are discussed in MATH1001/1003 but not 1002. Binomial theorem appears in MATH1004.

I can't seem to be able to find a specific course requirements in the course outline/syllabus.

What about the physical applications of calculus like Simple Harmonic motion and Projectile motion? Will it be used at all?

They may be used in MATH1003 but hardly.

Not in any MATH100X courses but in PHYS1001 it is used.
