You could improve your English comprehension skills by doing past test papers. An example of a reading test is the UNSW one. It tests you on a range of different text types and the questions on it are good.

What do you mean by 'write too complex'?

Could you perhaps post a question and the corresponding answer you wrote?

I'm not an expert or anything and creative writing is a weakness of mine too, but here's what I think you could do to improve your creative writing:
- First of all look at your school's assignments/assessments outcomes and criteria and the HSC outcomes. This will be what you're aiming to incorporate and/or achieve marks in your writing.
e.g. If it lists that context is one of the *five* parts in the criteria, make sure you include context!
- Learn the literary techniques (phew, guess Year 7-8 English tutoring was helpful!). Most schools will not teach you this - they'll expect you to learn it yourself or know it already and you (most likely) would not have been taught these in primary. You can look up the list on the Internet. (e.g. hyperbole, anaphora, figurative language, imagery etc.)
- If you can find a teacher/friend/adult/relative willing to help you improve, you could write practice essays and pieces then ask them to assess it - areas you need to improve, your strengths/weaknesses. The worst-case scenario may be going private/group tutoring.
- Keep writing! Remember, writing is key. Without practicing writing, your writing will never improve! But, if you keep writing and you're not improving.. you really have to see what you need to improve (refer to previous point, haha).

Anyway, good luck with improving in creative writing!! :)
