English, of all subjects, should certainly not be a compulsory subject. At least, not in the form it's in now. They should either be entirely elective, or focus more on the actually use of language in day-to-day life: spelling, sentence structure, etc.

I really enjoy English as a subject, but in geographical areas where people need their HSC to get into a trade, English is incredibly useless in its current form. Especially if they don't complete their HSC because of English.

I reckon he'd be at first amused, then extremely pissed off.

Something else about green eyed monsters and surly wenches would then be written by him, with reference to us...

Not really as long as you acknowledge that there is an inescapable difference between a good essay and a "HSC essay."

i hate english because it renders me with the inability to read something without analysing it or hightlighting 'quotations'
it totally ruins the experience of just simply reading a book!
for example, i am reading jane eyre and like a paragraph into it i am already identifing techniques....
I HATE ENGLISH!!!!!!!!:evilfire:
