Hey guys! May I please get an ATAR estimate?
My HSC Subjects and projected marks are:

English Standard -75-78
Economics - 83-85
Business Studies - 83-85
Mathematics Extension 1 - 75-80
Mathematics Extension 2 - 65-70

I attend a school with a very low-socio economic background which is ranked pretty poorly, at 493 from memory.

Will that affect my ATAR for the better or worst?
For business, there's a cohort of 35 students, i'm in the top 5 and after the 8th rank, the mark drops down from around 70 to 40... zzzz.
Mathematics extension 1's average is very high in my cohort (mid 80s). But my rank is pretty decent.
Mathematics extension 2 - i'm kinda below average but first place is around 20% above my average.
For Eco, i'm coming 2nd and i plan to stay there.
For English standard, i'm expecting to be in the top 10 out of 56 students.

Thanks!!
Much appreciated.

Also, i'm planning to do Economics @ uSyd or Commerce @UNSW next year.
Is it possible for me to get in? I am able to apply for all disadvantages - financial hardship, interrupted schooling (had to have an emergency operation this year during school), family circumstances (my parents separated during my high school life) and all of that... i could go on.

Thank you again!

Regarding the disadvantages, you might also be eligible for the EAS socioeconomically disadvantaged schools points (SO1A). Check the list to see if your school is on it.

This thread may be useful as well http://community.boredofstudies.org/115/university-new-south-wales/314902/unsw-eas-disadvantaged-schools-bonus-points.html

For usyd specifically this should allow you to apply for the e12 scholarship. By all means it isn't just an entry into a degree with a lower atar, you still need to do a scholarship application.

If you do not apply, your chances are zero.

If you do apply your chances are greater than zero.

If this is what you want to do then apply.

Regarding USYD:

Also if you get B4 or higher in Maths AND English they'll let you in if you're within 5 points of the cut off

The cut off was around 91 or 92 this year, I got 89.7 and got in with a B3 in 2 unit maths, I'm guessing cause I came first in my economics class with a hsc mark of 94 they may have given me some slack

Bachelor of Economics is single handedly the greatest degree ever :D :D :D I wanted to do law, was thinking Commerce/Law with a major in economics but I'm eternally glad i turned down my Com/LLB offer

Was at comm/llb offer from usyd? If so, some solid eas there, I know people who missed out with 99.6.

Economics is a solid degree, but doing Comm(Eco major) has many advantages: you get IPP program (internships etc for non penultimates), Washington D.C. Exchange/LA exchange etc where you actually work for relevant firms and gain industry experience. You get a chance to be on the Dean's list + scholarships. Eco school doesn't have too many.

However, if you're a gun - you don't need your Business School supporting you - you can do internships/exchanges yourself (might be more costly).
