Why are you all worrying about what marks you get and how they are all scaled? I have just sat four exams in three days and personally can wait until December when the marks come out. There is no point beating yourself up before hand about what you could get and that you may not get the mark you want.

more or less. first gets the highest mark and last gets the lowest mark. if the exam ranks stay consistent enough in the middle then you will get the mark according to your ranks. if for example say someone below average gets in the top 5 students they *might* get a higher exam mark than their below average mark suggests.

Fishy89sg i believe 75/84 raw is about 95-96/100 aligned mark, close to what gizmo said but its seems like u don't believe becos its too high...but from past years 2006 and 2004 its would be about the same

Majan 70/84 for ext 1 would giv you about 92-93 abouts...but thats a guess, cos i haven't heard ppl getting or thinking that got those marks in past years so i have no evidence to back it up.

90/120 for ext 2 i would say is 90/100, just scrape a E4. But this is a guess...in past years 85 would giv u E4 but sooo many people saying it was an easy test so i don't know...

Overall, for extension 1 by looking at past years experiences and some raw marks --> aligned marks from 2004 HSC students who asked for them from BOS, the raw marks to aligned marks haven't changed much. It's how much it gets scaled when going into your UAI calculation that counts. Like many people last year got high marks for ext 1 and ext 2 maths, but they ended up getting lower UAIs than those estimated by SAM, due to the lower scaling of maths...

Well thats what i think ><

really? well, i wouldn't know for sure, but i think it's a pretty reasonable estimate...
maybe even 74 this year since the paper seems harder?

apparently, looking at the other thread, a 75/84 --> 48/50

so i think it's a pretty reasonable estimate to say 73 + or - a couple of marks.
That's the mark range I got last year and received a 48/50 for it, so I would assume its around there this year.

From T Lee's answers, I think I got 78-79? I'm touching myself over the thought that I have a chance of getting a band 6/E4. HOT HOT HOT

fishy... i would say 95. 95 aligned mark is like 73-75 raw mark...that is IF 75 is 95...but im more leaning to 96 for raw mark of 75/84...especially with such similarities in past years...
remember people who are saying they got about 75/84 and got 48 like soul searcher, it may be the maximuum mark of that range...

Kmara...thats a large range mark of 50-60...
tops 50s like 55 is probably E3 cut-off...reason is because there are a lot more people squashed into the 60-70 raw mark range...so the range of E3 band is narrower than E4...

Top bands are easier for me to guess...as i only have contact with people who did fairly well in maths, i.e. family and friends

Full marks is honestly hard to get...especially wen practically everyone that i knew who thought they could get 100%, ended up losing marks when they looked at Terry Lee's solution.

So 100 might be 83-84/84 (it doesn't have to be just full marks)
Aligned ---> Raw
99 83-82
98 81-79
97 78-77
96 76-75
95 74-73
94 72
93 71
92 70
91 69
90 68-67

This is obviously a random guess...but i dont really see how 1 aligned mark is linked to only 1 raw mark...but i actually think 67-68 is probably E4 cut off.

Neways...ain't gonna post about this anymore...cos its getting me worried now, and depressed about maths both 3U and 4U...

When I did the Extension 1 paper last year, I was pretty sure I got a raw mark of around 75/84, and that's assuming that I got everything that I attempted correct (I left out about 9 marks - and they were all from Question 6 lol). Unfortunately, I got a little too confident that I could possibly get 100 after getting out every question too easily and then I got to Question 6........
RIP my confidence...lol :D

Anyway, I ended up with 97 as my aligned exam mark with at most 75/84 raw mark last year...so go figure...:p.

Looking at your paper, I reckon most of it looks easy, but the last projectile motion question looks horrible from a glance.
I would imagine the raw mark cut-offs would be slightly higher than last year probably because the general view of this paper was that it was much easier than last year's paper...so none of that possible "special marking" from last year (refer to the smh article on last year's paper)...lol

Strange question and I wasn't quite sure where to put it, but is it actually possible to get 'odd' marks for 3U? I mean, 97/100 if you're a four unit student would be 48.5/50 if you're a three unit student, and I though you could only get whole number marks? How does that work?

it gets rounded up to 49
just like if u get 96 and 97-96.5 is rounded to 97
although i suspect if u do 3unit and got 96 97, thats 96.5 (halved to 48.25 so rounded to 48)

Seems.. unfair somehow that the 3U kids get to be rounded up, whereas we don't. So then a 3U student who got 97 gets the same mark of 49 as a 3U student who got 98?
