Discuss with your prefect body to see what general improvements can be made to your school? I don't know what school you go to or what your school environment is like, so I can't give better suggestions :p

It is very difficult to advise you when you haven't give a brief description of what your school community is like, I think if you talk to the teachers and your own prefect body as well as the students and parents of your school, you might get a better idea of what are the best community initiatives that you can start to improve your school community and enhance its reputation. For example, is there a particular subject area that your school is particularly strong in? Perhaps you can consider suggesting to the relevant faculty teachers in organising groups for students to participate in competitions as an extra-curricular? Does your school has a focus on sporting achievements?-if so, perhaps you can start initiatives which gets more students active in recess and lunch times. Perhaps consider implementing a peer tutoring program in your school to promote a stronger and closer bond between the students etc.... there are simply just some of the many possible ideas that might work for your school, work together with your prefect body, make sure you don't do things in isolation, to come up with engaging initiatives which can help transform your school. Hope this helps:)

From experience, you need to look at your surroundings. You need to ask yourself what your school needs. Does your school need a physical improvement that requires a government body to fix it up (due to excess cost)? Does your school need more educational programs about improving the way students behave (reducing bullying an stuff if fights often happen at the school)?

Also, you should look into managing a method of raising funds as subsidies for your Year 12 Graduation and Formal. Make a Valentine's day sale organisation or something. Do a few fundraising chocolate drives, BBQ's, lolly sales or something.

As school captain, you should be taking the initiative in making ideas which you should present forward to the appropriate authority (principal, year adviser, counsellor, etc.). Once you have made the ideas, you should be setting out plans on the organisation and informing others (your prefects and a few other helpful teachers or sometimes even junior SRC) on what to do. From experience I did a lot of the organisation and ideas and the rest of the work was done by others. The only thing I ever did myself was cook the BBQ's because the others were hopeless at cooking meat (plus I got a few left overs). In the end we raised about $5k for our formal and got two government projects on renovations in our school which was pretty successful.

In terms of promoting your school, have you ever tried to network your school with other nearby primary schools? By doing that your school can promote itself to the community and will most likely end up having more new students each year. There are also a few programs (like a visit to Government House) where you can talk to other captains and network. You can also associate your school with local Rotary clubs if need be.

I don't know anything about the school. You might want to edit out your school just for identity reasons. Check your PM.

Well in my school we have a leadership team, so each portfolio organises a different area and the stress isn't on one or two people....
I'm a Communications Leader and one of the biggest things I do is organise something called 'The Advocate'. Which is basically a four-page spread in our local newspaper, it allows students to write/edit/photograph for a real newspaper. It gives our school promotion in our community, but also gets the newspaper more reads and students and teachers and parents read it more. Just an idea though

And I agree with anomalousdecay, fiind out what your school needs, set up polls or surveys and stuff and get them to come to you with ideas, chances are a lot of them have great plans but don't have the means to see them executed.

Congrats on making captain btw! and good luck :)
