Prereq's don't require you to actually pass .. you only have to have completed the unit.

open during the exams tho

It should be open, I reckon. I'm going on Monday to fix one of my subjects, plus they have mid-year enrolments going on.

whats the 40% rule

You have to get above 40% in the mid-sem and in the final exam, to pass the unit. Even if you have 50%+ altogether they can still fail you for getting lower than 40 in the exams. Thats why chemistry sucks!
