For sciences I personally do not recommend Excel books at all.

English i'd say it would be pointless as it only elaborates a little on each topic and doens't cover enough depth. The pocket books I hear is pretty good. Something you can read on the bus/train etc..

I believe the Maths one is very good for cramming because it summaries things so well.

To state the obvious, Excel guides are there to exploit the stressing HSC masses

I definitely don't recommend the one for ancient history. It's such a rip off and too concise.

But the English pocket books for individual texts aren't too bad, like ragerunner said. But don't, whatever you do, get the huge one.

I do cloudstreet as one of my texts. Its a long, stupid and boring book with 400 or so pages.

I'm on page 136.

/me kisses excel study guide for good marks.

Btw, how come the Cloudstreet excel book don't talk about the different perspectives? e.g. post colonialism, spiritual... etc...

For those very few who reads that book at school :/

Nah...I think Excel Physics is a pretty good book. Its concise so you don't need to read the thick-as Jacaranda and Contexts ones.

Those little pocket series books for maths and sciences are crap! The physics one of those books is just a glossary! A GLOSSARY!

English study guides for individual texts are ok.

i find physics quite good, it keeps you on track when you are referring to certain dot points

eng ones are stuffed. better off buying the little books that are on one book.

So true.
You only need like 15% of it. Useless!
You rather borrow one from a library and photocopy the relevant sections.
Not that I encourage it. :(

I found the chemistry on absolutely pathetic. It talked a LOT about useless sections and not enough about important sections.

For physics i find it more of a good cramming book. an't really learn much from just excel on its own.

Software design is also not recommended, as for software u need either really in depth knowledge or the skills...except for terms such as What is a context diagram, but even that u can just learn from class...

IPT in a month is also not recommended has alot of mistakes.... especially the obvious one with optical fibre....where they say the kevlar is actually optical fibres, and the what is meant to be really the glass where the light comes through the book says its a stiffener....

The CDs to any Excel book is not recommended.
The program looks crap and has heaps of bugs.
Most people i know with an Excel CD don't use it.

Are you refering to the ME2 one? In that case, yes i agreed. It looks crap. For the integration limits, it looks as though the author has hit 'enter' and pushed the spacebar a lot until it is close enough under the integral sign. There are typos in that book.

The Preliminary Mathematics one looks nice. The layout of it is simple but nice and they have little 'bombs'. :)

Oh yeah. You reminded me.
Is anyone interested in a new condition Excel Ancient History textbook?
Its one of the BEST resources around because it has heaps of relevant info not to mention it looks great next to the other GREAT textbooks in the Excel series.
So if you want the best marks in Ancient History, PM me today! :D

I think Excel is absolutely crap as well but it can be useful in giving you some sense of direction - because it is so simplified - just so long as you can corroborate with other textbooks and expand on it's points. The English one is absymal and the Chemistry one is not recommended. But don't buy one, just borrow one from the library.

I'm guessing Excel isn't too bad, considering thats all I used when studying for the exams.
