Why is everyone doing their commerce degrees keep on trying to go on exchange? other then for travel purposes-will it affect your job salability? do you have to fulfill a certain requirement to go on these programs? where can you go to? is it like going to another uni over there? what do you actually gain from this experience?

Thank you...it's all a matter of curiousity

you have to be nominated by home university (theres lots of paper work to apply for exchange) and then the host (overseas) university has to accept you. Also, each university is only allowed to nominate only a few to each of its partner universities.
you can go to most countries.
Some people just like travelling, experiencing new cultures, independence, once in a lifetime experience, etc.
and yes, you just go to another university and take courses, same as if you were at your home university.
as for employability, maybe? but I don't think it'd make a huge difference.

Whilst you have to do subjects when on exchange, all you have to do is pass. The actual marks don't get put on your home university transcript, and don't contribute to your WAM. A lot of people go over there to have fun, get a different experience, but without the worry about keeping your average up, since its just pass/fail according to home university.

Same as people who go on exchange to a foreign school in year 10 or something.

It is quite expensive however, for whilst you don't have to pay the overseas uni rates (ie. you just pay your normal HECS load here), accommodation, travel etc is quite expensive. To do an exchange at US universities, they recommend you have $10-15,000 to cover costs for the semester. There are some scholarships, but most are limited to around $2,000.
