Can someone help me integrate the product of a function including an exponential.

y = xe^(-x^2) from x = 1 to x = 2

please show full working - will rep anyone who helps.

cheers,

If you derive e^(-x^2), you get -2xe^(-x^2).

This means, if you integrate -2xe^(-x^2), you get e^(-x^2) + C. Therefore, you multiple -1/2 on both sides, giving the result (-1/2)e^(-x^2) + C

Then you can apply the limits as normal.

This thread is under "mathematics", we don't use u-substitution in mathematics mate :p
Don't worry about what they said.

It is actually "reverse chain rule" or "u-substitution" , not integration by parts.

whats integration by parts?
A MX2 concept. One thing I noticed, how is it possible that you can pick up MX1 and MX2 in your HSC year, according to your signature? You have to complete the MX1 preliminary course before you can begin MX2.

Well, it sort of defeats the purpose of accelerated if you're still going to do 3U and 4U together in the same year. The whole point should be to get 2U and 3U HSC done in the same year, and then allow the student to decide if they want to pick up 4U in the year after.
