This is what i think, its not like MX2 is like 20 times more difficult than MX1. It just requires a little more thought.
Now where talk'n. Maybe even a MX3 that has most of that stuff. Some graph theory and a little group theory couldn't hurt could it?

@ khorne - yeh i gues aye, our syllabus is pretty easy compared to world standards. i showed a guy i no who studied at cainbridge( is that how u spell it) one of my tests for MX1 and he just laughed, he said it was sooo basic

Also i was working through this typical Chinese high school exam with a chinese student at our school. The exam is given to the equivelent of year 10 students. The first question was "what is the minimum value of! Compare this to the first school certificate maths question "8.49 + 2.1 = "

i think thats a good thing about the calculators. Most students use calculators as crutches and this continues on throughout their life. Its making our country dumber.
I don't consider it nerdy; its one of the reasons so many asians excel at mathematics - there is a strong empahasis on succes in maths in asian countries. And yes; the number of people who depend on calculators to do simple maths is shocking.
Yeh, just looking at the results of the International Mathematics Olympiad (which is the worlds greatest mathematics competition), the Chinese always come first, as well as every student getting gold. The most gold Australia got in one year is 2 (or 3?)!
From my states education system (VCE) you do the hardest maths if you want to go into engineering, physics, maths, acturial studies or medicine (purely to boost you UAI, ATAR, ENTER, etc). In uni the maths involved for the first 4 is pretty much starting at assumed knowledge at fairly high maths. My system may be different but specialist maths or our hardest maths taught stuff such as vectors, differential equations, complex numbers, advanced calculus, further trigonometry, etc which is employed in first year uni maths, physics, engineering and I'd say actuarial would (not a commerce student so I can't justify that but I'm saying it would). But really these are the reasons you do the advanced maths if your passionate about it or what you want to pursue needs a higher understanding of the maths involved.
Since when has Australia been good at anything except doing nothing?
