I think from what I have learnt at various seminars, that you actually don't receive a higher ATAR, but when you apply to certain Universities, they actually see your ATAR as a little higher with "bonus points" :). Does not apply to all Universities, and depending on what University you are applying for, depends on how large the "Bonus point" you receive.

Yeah it doesn't actually change your ATAR, you're just given bonus points, which vary at certain universities.

It's part of the EAS. Just bonus points.

You can apply through EAS,
Code S01C which states that you must go to:

Rural school – not CAP. You must be attending
a school in a town with a population of less
than 10 000 people and a distance of at least
100km from the nearest centre with a
population of 10 000.

or

You must be attending a school in a town with a
population of less than 5 000 people and a
distance between 50km and 99km from the
nearest centre with a population of 10 000.

Like others have said, it doesn't change your ATAR but they act as if it is. :p

okayy.. well yeah i have applied though EAS, i thought that you would automatically get a couple of extra points on top for being in the country and then say for example with wollongong you get 3 bonus points on top of that so you'd end up with 4 or 5 points
