i heard that if you do badly in a few subjects and get a bad atar.

you can repeat those HSC subjects again.. and it will hopefully boost the atar

fact or fiction :uhoh:

AND AND AND.

If it is a fact. How will it work considering you might only want to repeat one subject. will the other subjects (and their marks)be locked into the BOS system.. and the atar would be recalculated after you redo that subject for the HSC. Thats how i see it.

Like for eg:

10/100 Maths
90/100 English
70/100 Religion

atar: 50

then redo maths and its like
80/100

and atar recalc to 80

or something like that?

This is called pathways and yes you can redo one or more subjects but...you will have to keep your latest attempt at the subject.

Oh what? Anyone can repeat their hsc subjects? I thought they would only allow it if you had excruciating circumstances in the past year.

Fact or Fiction?

Someone has been watching too much "It's Academic". And someone needs to find better game shows to watch =P

But why waste another whole year of life, and go to class with a bunch of year 11s? Also, it is quite likely that you get bored because you'll feel like your learning nothing new, not do homework/study due to overconfidence and end up with a worse mark

If your mark is better the second time you will have your ATAR etc adjusted using the better mark but...if the mark is worse then your ATAR will also be readjusted to that new mark.

Anyone can repeat all or some of the HSC. You used to have to repeat the entire HSC but since 1995/6 you only have to repeat those subjects that you wish to attempt again.

You can accumulate your HSC over 5 years whether you do it one course a year or do multiple courses one year and then add a couple more or repeat a course or two doesn't matter.

1. Its not my choice it was my schools they told me: do pathways or drop the subject
2. I want to know i can get the best atar i can.. if i work hard.

+ after most subjects are gone.. i can spend more time on other subjects! :)

Ah, never knew that! Thanks.

But, isn't there some sort of limit placed on WHO can re-do their HSC? What if a 1st-2nd year uni student decides he wants to redo it. Would they let him?

Yes.

I have actually taught a student who had finished their 2nd year.

Anyone, at any age, can sit their HSC and everyone can take 5 years to accumulate their ATAR.

e.g. even though I have a Masters degree I could re-do my HSC and get an ATAR if I wanted to do so.
