.. yeah. i pretty much just like to be entertained when i watch movies, as opposed to analysing every last detail of the story line. therefore i like lame movies.

I watched Donnie Darko as a result of it being the ultimate of flicking through the channels. I LOVED that movie and I still do. So many people I have spoken to about it say they have never heard of it (probably bc its such a struggle to recount such a plot) Now its soo damn popular....

A.I. (don't laugh, I reckon it worked really well as a fairy tale, if not as anything else)

And I really don't understand all the love for Donnie Darko. I used to really like it, but I've seen it a bunch of times now and it just seems really amateurish (or rather, very "film school graduate") - Richard Kelly intentionally poses questions that cna't be answered by what is given to the audience within the film just to create an artificial mystery, and there are some very laboured, wanna-be quirky/cool moments (the Smurfs thing or the guy doing crack at school for example). He also fails to make his intentions clear, and includes little details that could be important but aren't emphasised enough (characters being manipulated etc. He points out in the director's commentary on the DVD, for example, how often Frank will appear driving past in his car or something, but the audience doesn't know that's his car, so the importance of him being there is lost). It's a pretty well directed film, but it's not THAT good IMO. I dunno, maybe I've just seen it too many times, or I've been around too many people who think it's Jesus. And the Director's Cut sucked. Complete waste of time if you've already seen the movie.
