Hi so I was revising the dot point in Production of Materials:

Solve problems, plan and perform a first-hand investigation to carry out the fermentation of glucose and monitor mass changes

And I came across a questions that asked for a problem associated with this prac and how it is possible to overcome it. I can't really think of anything. Can someone help me out please? :haha:

Problems:
  • The combined masses of both flasks steadily decreased as well: inevitable leakages of gas.
  • The atmosphere in the flasks was not anaerobic and this could have hindered the fermentation process.

Whilst your doing this prac, you have to monitor the mass change at the same time every day, for consecutive days.
A certain problem could be that you couldn't measure the mass at the same times (due to not being able to access the equipment) or not measuring on consecutive days.
Also, keeping the temperature at 37 degrees constantly (unless you used a water bath)
