Film for ext 2 2007 - what is required? (1 Viewer)

hi guys,

I'm passionate about film and I want to do one for my ext 2 project. I have watched plenty and I know the theory behind techniques although I have little filmmaking experience. I also am not familiar with all the editing techniques done on computer these days. so a few q's:

1) how important is it to have the prior experience in making a film? can it still be done if I have no formal experience?

2) When is it good to have an idea by if I do not have one already?

3) can anyone suggest any good programs which are easy to use?

4) Has anyone done any film making courses, particularly over the summer holidays?

- Theoretical aspects of EXE2 such as: assessments, log books, timetabling and organisation etc

Anyways back to the actual topic.

1. You don't need past experiences at all. I have seen first-timers create extremely high quality films.

2. Your idea is going to be the hardest and most frustrating part of the process (well it was for me). I didn't think of mine until a few months before it was due. But try to pick an idea and stick with it as soon as possible.

3. I use Adobe Premiere. Probably a bit too complicated for your first-time though, I've heard good things about iMovie and Final Cut. There are hundreds of programs out there, I'm sure you can find one.

4. Perhaps 'cblok' can help you out there. I had already made about 15 films before I went into my HSC works, so I didn't take a course. I have a friend who participated in a short course at NIDA and he seemed to take a great deal out of it. Pricey though.

Just to clarify cherubs, there are two categories:
Film
Video

Video refers to what I believe you guys are talking about... lovely i love all the videos produced!

Film on the otherhand refers to actual film stock used for a concept... its never been done according to statistics... too expensive are the reasons cited

It's perfectly legitimate to refer to a completed work shot on video as a 'film'. Whilst it's true that no works have been produced (or likely ever will be), they are still referred to as 'films' rather than 'videos'. Toy Story is called a film, and no film was involved in it's production other than the creation of prints for distribution. The latest two Star Wars films were not shot on film, but High-Definition video.
On that note, if you have any sort of access to a High-Definition camera, jump on the chance. They boost the image clarity substantially over standard DV recording devices, and as a result provide a film with a far more professional look.

I'm thinking of doing a film - video - whatever you want to refer to it as. I have an idea but yeah, i'm a bit nill in the skills department....but my teachers have said thats okay...but otherwise i'll just opt for the short story option.
