when i go to certain websites, both these browsers close automatically.
the page starts loading, then half way done the browser just shuts down.?

why is that?

(i recently caught the last msn virus...does that have anything to do with it?)

EDIT: this is quite urgent as one of those pages that won't load is a website that i need for my assignment

Have you done a full virus and adaware scan ? It's possible something is preventing you from viewing a page.

It's also possible that something like java is crashing the page - does it have anything special on it?

Would you be able to provide a link? It may be the page itself, not your computer.

This must be some sort of joke, FireFox ( www.getfirefox.com , save the world!) does not have problems, ever.

On a more serious note, depending on what scans you have already run, I'd recommend visiting:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com

and

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

and allowing each to do a full scan. The benefit in the second scan is that it also detects spyware, and while it won't clean them, will serve as a basis for googling/asking further questions here to fix the issue (If that's the problem at all).

On top of these, the usual recommendations of adaware and spybot S&D, as well as a good antivirus package like AVG or a commercial equivalent, should be made (See the faq for this forum for URLs).

Failing that, one thing you might try is repairing IE and checking that system files are in-tact, by following the instructions here:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm&e=9800 (XP CD required)

You could also reinstall Firefox, though if both browsers are malfunctioning it's more like to be a shared component like a system file.

Reinstalling the java virtual machine (After uninstalling), also wouldn't be a bad idea if none of the above help.

Edit: Just saw the post where you say you HAVE scanned, my bad ;)
