Out of interest, I'd love to see the other demographics of the 1st in state list - not just gender.

Woo! I came first in Info Tech!

The ceremony was pretty awesome today, photos will be up on SMH and BOS soon enough I expect, and a few people were interviewed by channel 9 and other media so look for them on the news. Pretty sure Tim Large was one of them..

Also, when do state ranks get announced?
That's fantastic!! Good on you :D
And I agree, Ruse'll probably still top it this year

Wow, anyone know what subject that girl at the bottom right got first in? Looks like she must have accelerated it a few years early.

What HSC marks would you need to get (Raw and Scaled) to get a first in the state award? What marks would you need for;

  • English Advanced
  • English Extension
  • English Extension 2
  • Geography
  • 2U Maths

Thanks :).

whatever the highest is

if the highest is 10/100RAW in the whole goddam state
then thats 1st place

(but it would scale to a band 6 - has to be band 6 from memory)

Dude I dont know about scaled, but Raw marks for 1st in state are always 98,99 and 100. Including MX2. Last few years had people who got raw 100 for MX2. Not all last few years, most though. If not 100, then 99.

Ahh, but I wonder what were the highest marks! If only the BOS published them ;).

I'm asking what do you think the raws would have to be in order to have a fairly good chance.

Ahh okay, so say for an English Advanced course, you'd need atleast a 49 or 50/50 and a 49 or 50/50 exam mark to have a chance at First in the State. Sounds hard :p.

Yep, I am talking about raw raw. As in, during the HSC exams the 1st in course people sometimes get ZERO marks incorrect, 100 percent in the exam. But usually people lose 1 or 2. 3 if its a bad cohort lol

So to have a good chance of getting 1st in course, you must have gotten almost EVERYTHING right in your HSC exam. For state ranks, the lowest state rank for most subjects would be approx 95/100 ie 5 marks off the top. Maybe make that 96/100. The state rankers are full on pro's at their subjects

Moderation is redundant if your raw mark is high enough. If one relies on moderated marks for a state rank, then that person would be screwed haha. All state ranks come from 96+ RAW marks. They all exceed 100 moderated
