ALSO did any of you attempt the 2021 long response question bc I attempted it unseen and my answer was so different to the suggested?? bc their answer unpacked the scientific method in detail and mine was js airy yapping about how having a rough universal scientific method/process was good because it means you can evaluate fraud and credibility more easily LMAOO 😭 actually so cooked if they give us an open ended english ah long response question tmr
my recommendation is to define all the terms of the question first so u tick off the low band marks straightaway. like if a question asks abt the effect of empiricism u wouldn't just jump right into it, ud define it and outline its origins.
also include as many examples as u can! even if they're not in the syllabus per se but just something u can think of in the moment, like in occams razor or something.

MOSTLY GOOD i actually fucking cackled when I saw the peacock spider mating dance help mee, kinda tripped up on the value of quantitative vs qualitative data, as well as the induction a bit bc it turned more into a me analysing the data rather than how could it be analysed and didnt have time to edit my ans for the contaminated soil treatments BUT I think I cooked for the rest of it. The questions were so easy compared to previous years I was so thankful

Uhm how did we answer the last question for the soil treatment one...
the conclusion one?? I saw the T test and was rlly confused because i didnt know if they were treating the same sample twice bc of the two treatment thing but i js assumed tests were not like that, so I said all of them were strong positive correlation suggesting all were effective at removing soil content of petroleum, and then ordered them based on correlation coefficient. The T test one I yapped a little on how the diff between bacteria vs copper was significant but that may be in a negative fashion bc of the correlation coefficient and that they should do a one tailed t test instead or whatever, and then i said the last one was not significant difference but both were effective. So my judgement was just - findings suggest copper is more effective than bacteria treatment but one tail t test should be conducted, and that chemical was just as effective rather than copper being significantly better

Ye so basically in the table they were comparing the treatments of copper nanotubes to each of hte bacteria and chemical. Using hter correlation coefficient as well as the p value, you had to basically infer what the results mean, and if the conlusion was valid. There was no statistically significant difference between the chemical and copper, but there was for bacteria. Also, person correlation coefficient was the highest for hte chemical treatment, and had an average of 2.05 % increase in pertrol remvoval per week (i calculated this just by taking the final percentage and dividing it by 40 weeks)

Guys if you don't mind me asking now that you are done. How hard did you find science extension? Did any of you do SciX? and also how much time out of your scheduele did it take?

ahh smart, unfortunately I forgot to include actual stats in my answer cause I spent a lot of my time trying to comprehend that question + the spider questions lol 😭

- not to give a vague answer, but it depends on what you define as 'hard', the content isn't hard in itself but I would say this course is vastly different to other HSC courses in the sense that you can't just memorise the content and still be able to get a band 5 w that alone (or equivalent in extension), but I liked it for that cause you actually have to learn shit and it makes it a lot more valuable, questions are a lot more about critical thinking than regurgitating
- didn't do SciX myself, applied but didn't get it. One of my friends got it but she had like one or two meetings with the guy and didn't find it that helpful, but that's subjective as it depends on ur project + the mentor.
- for time out of my schedule, decent amount for the actual project (all aspects of it from the project proposal to the writing of the report), had to do 2x morning class and 1 afternoon which def fucked w my sleep but in terms of actual studying for trials + hsc, not that much. Once again, really depends on what you choose to do your project about, I know I spent a lot of my summer holidays doing aimless research for my lit review haha.
but tbf couldn't tell you the exact amount cause I've never been the type to have a schedule for study or doing things at all, I do whatever I like the most which tended to skew my schedule heavily towards extension + chem lmaoo. Just know I was Not efficient about it and definitely could have shaved a solid 50 hours off my time if I was more organised with it.

Sorry to bug you again, but I was also wondering the relative hardness to band 6 the subject.

Tbh the content doesn't really look the hardest and the report is internally markes so I don't get how alot more people don't band 6 it?
Also is the scaling any good?

If you were to pick your subjects again would you still do it?
