Fort Street and Girraween Portfolios, Reports and extra cirriculars (1 Viewer)

Can someone give me their opinions on what year 8 semester 2 and year 9 semester one report they think will be sufficient enough for me to get into fort street taking in account of other competitors? Also does anyone know how fort street chooses their applicants?? Please reply asap thanks! Also i don’t really do any extra curriculars unless u count tutoring.

As someone who went to fort St and knows several people who came in in yrs 8-10 I can confirm that it is a competitive process. You will have to hand write an essay on a topic of the school's choosing in addition to providing your reports. I believe an interview is also involved. Remeber that fort St is not a hot house like ruse and they don't care as much about your marks so much as your creative potential and value as a person. Also Fort St has a bit of a problem with its gender balance - the school is two-thirds male - so they tend to prioritise giving girls places. In my year of the roughly 15 people who joined from yrs 8-10 all but one were female. The year 11 entry is based off a test and is less competitive and a more diverse range of people tend to get in.

Also, if you get into the round of the interview, is it basically nearly guaranteed u got the spot?

Like they can still reject you but yes ur quite likely to get the spot if you progress to the interview stage from my understanding

From yrs 9-10 about 2-5 kids come.in each year and in year 11 they have a big intake of like 25

Starts at 8.45, 2 50 min periods, 20 min recess, 2 more periods, 40 min lunch, another 2 periods then finish at 3.15

Hi i’m in year 8 in a low ranking partial selective school. I am going to apply for fort street and girraween next year for entry into year 10. can someone please share with me how i can attain all these awards and do these extracurriculars ppl have done. i always see so many ppl on BOS having so many awards and i get rlly confused because my school has never held such competitions. i’ve also seen a lot of ppl tlaking about things like “duke of edinburg” “unsw computer program” and stuff like that. what are they? and how come ive never heard of them? also can u please give suggestions on what to do to improve my extracurriculars because i currently do none(unless u count the two days of tutoring i do each week) my entire life my parents never forced me into a sport, or instrument(kinda wishing they did). i only did swimming for a year and a half back then but i was rlly bad so i dropped out lol, it was during years 4/5. please reply ASAP, i rlly want to get out of my shitty school and rly want to make these selective schools. sorry for the spam of threads. its covid so u cant really do stuff like volunteering. enrol urself into some online programs, girra's entry is extremely competitive

I have no idea where Bonnyrigg is, do a quick google. Petersham station is a 5 min walk from the school

if I had to go by train to my current school I'd have to go to central and to the corresponding train line

May I ask, why don't you consider attending Hurlstone Agricultural High School? It's quite closer to Bonnyrigg than some of the other selective schools.

It really depends what train station is near bonnyrigg. From cabramatta/Canley vale/fairfield area its around 40-45 minutes

hello another question, are the exams at fort street extremely hard?, is the environment and students nice? are the teachers good? what would u say FSHS’s strongest subject is??? and also will it be hard making new friends considering everyone already has their friend groups?? tysm

Idk might just be me but I've done a couple of fort st papers for maths and they really weren't all that difficult. This is for yr 12 btw but it might carry on to younger years. Anyone know why fort st is ranked so high? Probably cause it's city based.

report: for semester 1 this year i got As in maths, english, science, history, both 2 electives, and a B in geo (shit rank tho i totally blew geo)
sem 2 last year As in maths, science, history, geo, 2 electives , B (89% bruh) in English

extracurriculars: literally only did band and 1 term of a sport each year but i scrounged up literally every academic award i could find

didnt do the test at all
